I am a retired scientist. I live in Pune, a renowned city in India for its educational institutes. After retirement I am teaching yoga to about 150 persons, male and female. That keeps me in good health to persue my hobbies, one of which is woodworking. I was born in Burma and my father, uncle and cousin inculcated the hobby in me. Burma is famous for its teak and that is how carpentry has become a family past time. I certainly lack in sophisticated tools for enjoying this hobby but that makes me put my best skills in making a project but at the cost of time!
We have variety of woods to experiment with, along with local variety of teak. I am in search of lot of knowledge about woodworking and I am happy that Lumberjocks forum is providing me with it. I am thankful to to all members who are displaying their projects and giving me new ideas. I am new to this type of blogs and may need your help at times. Wishing all of you a happy and prosperous new year

It may take a little while before I send my work. Pl bear with me. I am a hobbyist. So far I have made a dozen foldable chairs (These are known as deck chairs to the best of my knowledge and I could see them as lineman’s chairs while watching French Open Tennis Tournaments) half a dozen Dinning Tables. a couple of cabinets and many other small items. I don’t like wasting wood scraps and use them for making useful articles like penstands or spoon holders. I don’t have sophistikated tools and have to use my skills most of the time. I find your forum very informative and interesting. Thank you

A very precise picture of a deck chair similar to what I made can be seen on Google search for Deckchairs UK
It is a very comfortable chair

Welcome!
It’s a pleasure to have you as a buddy.
In the near future, possibly this spring, a steel company from India, Essar Global is building a new $2 billion Steel
mill in our area.

i just used a cheaper red oak and besides the rancid smell when it is cut (a reasonable price to pay for the quality) and i used a natural danish oil finish on it.

A late welcome to a great site, where one is always felt welcomed. Nice projects, also tell the little girl that she did a great job on the eyes and mouth of the piece out of bamboo.

Seeing your projects and knowing that you accomplished them with hand tools….an old fret saw…etc., is amazing! It shows the patience you must have and the care you must show while doing your work! It’s very inspiring to someone like me who is new to woodworking. Thank you for sharing your skills with us! : )

G’day Sharad, thanks for the nice comments on my rings. I really enjoyed making them, in fact I do them quite often now for the kids at school. Thanks again, regards Hagrid.
