AZ Fine Art Expo happenings

Well we are into the second week of the AZ Fine Art Expo. There has been good crowds and some small sales so far. I guess things don't take off right away. People know you're here for 10 weeks and take their time and come back over and over. We have had some great reactions to our work and are hopeful for some big sales soon. The artists and staff are wonderful and we're making friends fast. I can see how everyone considers this their second family. Spending 10 weeks with so many great people will do that. Many artists come back year after year, not only because of the sales they make, but the lifelong friends. There are some exceptional artists here, who's work is some of the best in the country. We are just blown away by some of the quality of art.

We got an rv to stay in here at the show and it is conveniently located right outside of the big tents. Sampson is getting more and more settled in and is enjoying laying out in this beautiful weather. He's had some health issues since getting here and we had to have a mobile vet come take a look at him (sometimes miss the convieniences of the big city). He either has a slipped disk or a nerve pushing into his spine. So he has to take it easy and not do much, but lay around. We have to help him up and be sure he doesn't fall, which is how we think he hurt himself. The shots he got seemed to help right away and now he's on meds. We'll see how he does and pray he gets better fast. He's always been so healthy and active and this has taken us by surprise. But he's 9 and being a great dane, the back end is what gives them more problems. We want our baby to be with us as long as possible. So we'll do what ever it takes.

The weather has been so nice. Much better than back home. Although we noticed it warmed up there, right after we left (figures). But it's still cold and snowy there. We have a working cabana here at the show, so we can still do some work. We're a little limited, but we have some prepped pieces of furniture and sculptures and have already finished up one very large sculpture and a small piece to have out for sale. We haven't put in to many hours out there, since we're trying to just get settled into the show. But we are finally getting out there more to work and will start making headway on projects.

Below are some pictures of the setup and our booth display. Along with pictures from the Mesa Museum Exhibit that happened this past friday. It was a good turn out and we were able to give out lots of free passes to this show, so people can come and see more of our work. We were surprised to see that our vessel was used for all the advertisement along with the huge posters they had at the museum. Our rocker and vessel will be on exhibit till March 18th and will hopefully find great homes. To see more photos of our setup at the show, please visit our blog www.shangrilawoodworks.wordpress.com

Great Job on the booth, I wish you the best and lots of sales and contacts. Shows are tuff, but you do what you have to do to promote your work. Hope Samson gets all better.

Sorry all. We haven't been on here for a while and want to thank you for your comments and well wish to Sampson. He is doing better. Scott is home right now prepping more pieces to work on while we're here. So far the show has been good for us and many others. I can't wait for him to come back tomorrow. I'm bored and need someone to talk to other than Sampson. I'm anxious to start working on new pieces and sale them.
