Been Busy

I have not been on much as of late. I am busy building some cabinets for a client that is opening a gun and archery store. And about 6 weeks ago I started selling boats, I work Sat , Sun and Monday doing that.

The paying jobs have been hit and miss with the wodworking so I felt I needed a little extra income. There are several new tools I want to purchase and I am looking forward to using my boat this summer so I need some more money.

I have been checking the site some and see some of you have made some great things. And the Thorsen tables that are entered now make me wanna build another one. Man you all have built some awsome tables. Congrats to you all.

Thanks to those that have posted video of their shops they are a pleasure to watch.

Today I picked up some rough oak boards. 845board feet to be exact. A friend owns a moulding shop and they build arches for home builders in the area as well. I make some of the legs for the arches in my shop for him .

He called me about 4 days ago and asked if I wanted some oak cheap. Of course I said yes .
Well he said I have about 850 board feet of rough sawn oak in widths from 5 1/2 inches wide to 8 1/2 inches wide. The lenghts are 16ft 14ft and12ft. It was aired dried for 4 years. That I could have for $1 dollar per board foot. I said right now I dont have $850 to spend on wood. And then he said dont worry about it my credit was good with him and if I got out of his way within a week I could have it for $650 dollars.

Needless to say I jumped all over it. !!:"><a href=!:"><a href=

The first pic is 1 board after a few passes thru my planner and the second one is the wood stacked under my shelter. The second one shows the stack of wood next to some 2×6s i got for free. The 2×6s ends are painted blue the rest is all oak.

Nice score on the oak!

Great hit on the oak. It’s nice having someone lookout for you.

Congratulations on the nice buy. That oak looks real nice out of the planer. It’s nice to have friends in the right places.

Great score for shack. Is it cabinet time for your house?

Hi Shack;
—-yes, I will say that I have noted your absence around here, but then assumed that you were busy….! I sometimes think that life is that way, feast or famine and this includes work//play. But then also I have found that busy hands or the result of having a full mind.

You’ve got some great oak there and a great source for future projects of ‘wood art’. Thanks for sharing your find and again, great to hear from you!!!

Thanks everyone, I am not sure what I am gonna make yet. I am thinking of a headboard and foodboard shaker style. Along with a dresser and wardrobe of some sort. Still thinking of what I want in my room. I dont have anything I have ever made in my house so it might be time to change that.

I have a lot of reading to catch up on here. I have missed Franks writings as well as Dustys saga. Fot the next two weeks I wont be on much but after that things should slow a little.

What a great find on the wood. Sounds like a bargain was made an even better bargain.

Glad to have you back with us Shack in a few weeks.
