I have a small piece of Maple burl, and have never turned this type before. Is there anything I sould know before starting in. It is not large about 5"x5"x10". Thought about a weed pot or something along those lines. Any help or comments would be appreciated.

A friend of mine has a saw mill and ships native lumber all over the country. A while back I asked him if he ever has material that they can’t ship for whatever reason. I told him that I would be willing to buy short pieces that would not fit into the cells. His response was I’ll look into it and let you know….. Well time went by and at a get together he told me that he was getting some lumber together for me. About a week or so later he called me to say that he had some ready for me and that he would deliver it later that day. Here are some photos of the lumber.

The long top pieces are 6-7ft and are figured maple, in the pile are Cherry, Hard Maple and Red and White Oak.
I asked my friend how much I owed him, he said do you think you could make me a Cribbage Board….. Of Course I could make him a Cribbage board but that is for another post under new projects.

Just thought I would show you how lucky I am!!
