Router Station Top Question

So I’ve been building Norms Deluxe Router Station and would like some feedback from some folks who’ve been there with this plan.

At the moment a phenolic top is WAY outta my wallets reach but I’m wondering if the MDF design norm has works well and for how long? Does it sag after awhile and how much? I’m not mounting a 3 1/4 HP router just my PC690.

Anybody had success with the top Norms designed out???

Thanks!

To Shopsmith or Not to Shopsmith

So I’ve been debating with my father in law about weather or not he should sell his Shopsmith setup invest in building a new shop using standard stand alone tools and machines. He’s about to retire and is kicking the idea around of either selling it or dropping another $1K into upgrading to all new Shopsmith stuff.

Personally I’ve never used the SS but I sincerely doubt I’d be a fan. Not being able to move from machine to machine would bug the hell outta me and being limited to using just their tools would make me want to roll it off a cliff.

I wanted to get you guys to weigh in especially those who have experience with both! So bring on the debate.

Dado Blade Help

So I need to get myself a dado blade. There was an article i had read i believe on Rockler.com a few months back that went through how to pick the correct dado blade for your saw.

I have the old Craftman contractors saw with the flex drive. It’s on 110v. But in a few months I am going to pick up the new Sawstop contractors saw.

I don’t want to “wobble” blade those things look and sound like nothing but a pain in the butt with poor results.

Which Tool Would You Buy???

My birthday is coming up and I’ve told everyone nothing but money because I want to get some new tools. I’m guessing all in all I’ll have around $500 to spend. I’m considering a band saw, 13” planer, biscuit jointer or a new router/plunge router combo. So what do you guys think??? Which is going to give me the best advance in shop versatility?
