I am a pretty frequent thrift shopper; I am fortunate enough that one of the local shopping centers is almost all thrift stores and doubly fortunate to drive by them on a near daily basis as part of my commute.
Persistence and a little luck seems to be the name of the game, so I make an effort to pop in just about every day. I scored big time this week finding a nice custom made bench top router table. It came with a fence, feather board, miter track, and dust collection port.
The price at $20 was hard to say no to. The dust collection port still had it’s original price tag $12.99
Much to my surprise, when I picked it up off the floor, there was a porter cable model 6902 router.
In a state of semi-shock, I double checked every inch for a different price tag; nope $19.99 was the only price. I suspect the owner made the same mistake I did, saw the table on the ground, told one of his guys to price it at $20, missing the fact that a router was attached.
Or perhaps he knew it was there and wanted to move it; tools are the one area I have gotten really good deals off of him (usually 1/3rd of retail, this was more like 1/10th).
