« Part 1: What am I going to be? Part 2 of Unknown Wood / Unknown Project series Part 3: Angel Inlay is Finnished »

Well, After much thought and input from everyone. I decided to make 2 of these boards into Angel wings,

My wife and I have an couple that are very special to us and they collect Angels. So this is going to be a present for them.

Here is a picture of the drawing I have so far.

Angel Drawing

The overall size will be about 12 inches square. The Angel will be about 8 inches tall.

Here is a picture of the woods I will be useing.

Angel Wood Selection

The wings are the white oak crotch that I started this post with.

The hair will be blood wood.

The robe will be Poplar. I found a piece that veries from tan to very light green to a pale lavender.

Still have not decided on a wood for the face. Everything I have seems to darken considerably when I test it with mineral spirits. I would realy like the face to be a white to a light pink. Any suggestions?

Have re-sawed all boards to 1/8 inch thick, and book matched the background and robe.

Will be insetting a piece of brass for the halo.

Thank you all for looking.

Please leave all comments and suggestions.

Will continue as I go.

Thanks Again

Looks great so far. The poplar looks perfect for the robe. Other than a maple for the face, maybe Madrone or alder?
