Here is a piece of wood I received from Rastus
I am trying to decide what it is going to become. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Pieces are about 4 inches long and 3 wide at the widest. Re-Sawed to 1/8 inch thick for inlay.
Here are the pics I took of it before and after I sliced it for inlay.
Is it going to be Hearts? or maybe Angel Wings?
Or could it end up as a Butterfly?
Here is what it looks like with a litle Mineral Spirits wiped on it. I just love this wood!
My plans are to do an Inlay with this and use it for a box lid.
What color wood for the background? Light or dark?
Any suggestions would be helpfull. I have soooo many different ideas going I can’t decide.
Thank You for your help.
Scrappy

Hmmmm. If it a low density wood I would guess pine that had been attacked by beetles. They often leave a stain of blue and grey in the wood. If it is a higher density I would guess some sort of soft maple. The wavey lines you can see would come across as typical maple figuring if rip cut instead of cross cut.
The fourth picure looks kind of like a crab. That might be an option but an angel or butterfly would be pretty cool as well.
Keep us updated!

appears to be curly white oak. Whatever you use it for I’m sure it will be nice.
