Looks like I haven’t posted many projects of late. I got so much done this spring, projects wise, have I really been up to nothing lately? How can I call myself a woodworker if I’m not spending anytime in the shop. Have I really been slacking? Surely not. I mean, I don’t think so…

If I stretch my brain a bit… the past comes into slightly clearer focus…. aha! I’ve been working at wrapping up my in-laws three-season porch. It’s been a long work in progress. Punctuated by long breaks for the day job, the weather, and of course, life.)

Dad did the rough carpentry, closed it in, and passed the baton to me. I’d taken over the finish work. Beadboard around the windows, sills, trim – lots of meticulous fitting, and getting things flush. Just about everyday I’d spent there there, I’d swear I was a day or two away from being done… Spring rolled into summer, and now…. this week I actually did finish! (Well, I still need to do a little staining, but I’ve swept up the chips, packed up the tools and brought them home!

I’ll get some pictures this weekend (have a couple jobs that are going to keep me otherwise occupied this week) and then, I’ll be free to slave over my house for the rest of the summer – If these heatwaves and thunderstorms ever end!

Looking at this in terms of a project, I realize I’ve classified some things from the day job and one other commission as a blog, but never actually posted them as projects. Why? Because I didn’t make them for myself? Maybe because they were more “learning experience” than “project”... I dunno – I can’t answer that… So If some things look familiar in the projects area, that’s why…

Moving the porch down the the completed are on my “the list” I find myself adding a few new items, ones I hope to get done this summer… some are crucial to finish before the snow falls, others would just be nice to have done.

I’m also remembering that I cleared out and organized my shed last year. despite moving most of the “good lumber” down to the basement, the shed is now full again – and by full I mean unsafe to walk in. So there’s another item to add to the list – another “weekend killer” that must be done soon. Maybe I’ll just make a great big pile o lumber (free-form sculpture) and call it my “garden project”. Cross two things off my list that way.

Anyhow, I’ve got some picture to take, and a few “old” projects to post in the correct column.

Can’t wait to see the porch in person. That’s a BIG project to take off your list. Congrats!
