Hey all, I just wanted to let everyone know about a little contest that Kyle Toth and I have set up on The Wood Whisperer website. It’s a bangle bracelet making contest that will happen in October, and there are some sweet prizes available for the top 3 entries in each of two categories: “Turned on a lathe”, and “made without a lathe.”
We wanted to make sure that turning wasn’t a requirement for entry, and you can make a bracelet any number of ways. So, we hope to get as many people out to enter their bracelet. We thought it would be a slightly different take on the typical “bulid”, and it’s also something that can be knocked out in a weekend, if not a day.
Marc Spagnuolo, has allowed us to use The Wood Whisperer website for the contest, so everything will be happening on the Bangle Bowl 2014 Home Page
We hope to get as many people out as possible, and we are really interested to see what everyone makes. We have a couple how-to videos on the page, and more are coming.
Also, if you are interested in giving a metal core bangle a try, Eric over at BangleGuy.com is having a huge sale for the event on the stainless steel size 8 cores the first two weeks of September. If you have never seen one before, check out my recent project post: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/101891. It’s one of the sagebrush/acrylic bracelets I make, and I use those metal cores for the inside of it. I have a how-to video on the main contest page, and Eric has a multi-part video series that goes in detail on how to make them on his website.
Also, if you are interested in donating any prizes, please give me a shout. We will have all the prizes and donors listed on the main contest page. We want to make sure and get the winners hooked up with some really great prizes, so if you have anything at all that you make and want to get a little spotlight on it, just send me a message. We’re really going for grassroots on this one, and we have already gotten some really amazing hand made prizes in the mix already.
