My daughter and I are building a pie safe. Well, my daughter is building and i am supervising. She doesn’t seem to have much fear of the tools, so that is good. I have helped her with setting up the machines and giving advice, but she basically has done it all. She is 17 years old and a senior in high school. Anyway, here are a few pictures of what we have done so far. The design is roughly what is found in the 1988 Woodsmith magazine. I am pretty pleased with the results so far.

Go girl(s)! I noticed the Sears Craftsman 12” bandsaw and, the light still works! I’ve had mine for 26 years and I love it. AND, the original light still works! I use Timber Wolf, 1/4”, 4TPI blades exclusively. never need to change them out…keep chargin!!

My daughter is female, but I am not. LOL. I got that bandsaw about a year ago from someone on Craigslist for $50.00. Along with that, I got some extra parts for my TS for free. I got a motor, miter gauge, extra fence and the hand wheels. I made out on that deal. I just wish I could find the sanding belts for it. nobody seems to sell them anymore.

Your time with your daughter will be worth more than just the finished piece. Excellent job.

Your daughter looks like a talented woodworker. Can’t wait to see this finished.

Right now we are having a pretty good time. We are having discussions about design and layout. We have made some minor mistakes, but they have been cutting off too little instead of too much. I can live with that.
