Lemonade Stand

My daughter really likes the “shop” and seems to be all about me building her projects. Of course, she isn’t interested in furniture, other than a castle bed, but she wants a lemonade stand for the summer. Here are two designs I’m mulling over.

First one is similar to one she pointed out in a catalog, PB for kids, I think. The second one is one I’m adapting from a more traditional hot-dog / ice cream stand. Back door cabinet and a from the top ice -cream / cooler compartment.

Sketchup Material Library

I was disappointed with the lack of cool wood-grained materials for sketchup, so I threw this set together, maybe its useful. Of course it could use some work…

To use this.
1. Extract the library (.zip) onto your computer somewhere.
2. Open Sketchup (I use 6)
3. Tools—> Paint Bucket
4. Click on the arrow that brings up “Open or create a Library”
5. Browse to the location you extracted the library above and voila.

Materials can be found here: http://www.sawdustroad.com/sketchup

alder

cedar-spanish

koa

pine-ponderosa

anigre

cedar

lacewood

pine-sugar

ash

cherry

lyptus

poplar

aspen

cocobolo

mahogany-african

purpleheart

balsa

cordia

mahogany-genuine

rosewood

banak

cottonwood

mahogany-santos

sapele

basswood

cypress

mahogany

teak

beach-steamed

ebony

makore

tulipwood

beach

fir

maple-hard

walnut

birch

goncalvo-alves

maple-soft

wenge

bloodwood

hackberry

moradillo

willow

bocote

hickory

oak-red

zebrawood

bubinga

jarra

oak-white

butternut

jatoba

padauk

MAC Howto
I discovered that the process of making the materials available on a MAC is less than ideal. Here’s what I did:

Here’s what I did.
 1. Download the zip, select all of the skm files and choose copy (should be something like copy 54 items)
 2. Open Finder and browse to
 <your name=”true”>/places/Library/Application Support/Google Sketchup 6/SketchUp/Materials/My Textures
 3. Right Click in that Location and choose Paste.
 4. Quit Sketchup and restart SketchUp.
 5. Choose the Paint Bucket Icon
 6. Choose the Brick Icon
 7. Choose My Textures

The NEw Fangled Bench

Well, It seems to be a trend. I’ve looked at benches for a long time and for the price, size and utility, I’m looking towards a 6’ version of John White’s New Fangled Bench (Fine Wood Working, 1999).

I’m not sure why, but no one posts the Sketchup drawing files on the net, so I’ve had to generate some. I’m sure If I offend, you’ll let me know. All I ask in return is a thanks for saving time. Although I do recommend creating everything from scratch in sketchup just to make sure you are accurate. My router table base drawing has a LIE in it and I was off by 1/8th of an inch on one of my drawers. DOH.

Router TableBase

I wound up with a router table top for christmas and am getting ready to build the base.

I’ll start with sketchup and post its progress as I go.

The router table top is from Woodpecker and it seems nice. Given a good support stand it should be a great addition.

Stage2:
Ok, here is my first concept plan. Any thoughts or first impressions?

Design goals: Movable, sag prevention and storage for all my router accessories.

Concerns:
Router house height: Right now, I have chosen 12 inches for the height of the router housing. I’m not sure that will be deep enough. Measuring my plunge attachment for the 690 router, it maxes out at 11”. Not sure I’ll use this router for ever, but I’m sure it won’t be upgraded for many years.

Dust: I’m planning on putting in an acrylic door to cover the Router House and a 4” port out the back to connect to my dust collector. Before attaching the 4 inch line, I’m planning on having a tee for topside dust collection using a dedicated 4-6’ piece of 2” hose.
