Good Evening LJ’s Last week I posted my Hot metal mixer Well with this Blog entry I am posting the building of my model railroad. My design is to build a steel mill themed model railroad into my bedroom in a semi- finished ( I kinda had something to do with this LOL) the dimensions of the layout are 24” from the wall, and 12’x22’x16’ walk around style and ranging from 40”-45” deck height along with it I have to put in a queen size bed, cabinets with drawers, bookshelves ( to hold 7+ years of model railroader) and a lighting valiance. Now before you think this is another boring blog or it has nothing to do with woodworking THINK AGAIN!!!! Model railroads require a lot of engineering, patience and precision. If you don’t do one thing right it affects the rest of the layout or operation of the trains. Now back to the rest of the table the main grid work is 1×4, 1×6, and other misc wood scraps. the table is supported by 2×2 legs, and cabinets. the east leg will contain a hidden staging yard in which trains move in or out of the scene, requiring some very precision woodworking Couple the floor being out of level in a few places and you will get a great education in woodworking. For the final finish the top will be 3/4” OSB topped with 1/2” Homasote. As I go with this I will leave you guy’s with a teaser ( my friends layout I helped build and some steel mill pics I have had for a while

How cool is that. It looks like a large setup, where are you building this up at?

This looks like fun!! When I was a child, had a Lional set we had that all set up on a 4×8 sheet of plywood and we thought that was a large set up!

Thanks for sharing~
