Anyone know what this is

Looks like a leather strip cutter. Probably for making harnesses etc.

There’s a simiiar tool used for cutting strings for table top inlays but you didn’t show us the blade so it would be a tough call as they are very similar.

thanks Bob that makes sense. the blade is shown in the pictures it just a straight vertical razor type blade that is on the left side of the tool. what stricks me as strange is that it almost seems like the only way to use it is to cut from the bottom of what it is you cut.

You may have it assembled upside down. Easy to do with that type of a jig.

YOU KNOW I THOUGHT THAT TOO. BUT I THOUGHT IF YOU WERE CUTTING ON THE BOTTOM SIDE YOUR HAND WOULD GET IN THE WAY. IT’S JUST THE WIERDEST THING I HAVE SEEN I A LING TIME.

It is indeed a strap cutter for leather. I have a similar one and also on old home made wooden one. Great for cutting harness straps and belt blanks.
