I only started playing around with wood first half of this year (when i joined here), started relief carving a few months ago at home and went to a 1 day course in july and a 2 day course end of sept.
so im relitively new to it all.
My son has been looking at my work (albeit only 3 pieces ! – i never finished my 1st one back in july) and likes my carving and he asked me if i would do his table centre pieces at his wedding, at first i was shocked….. what does he think i am ?? some professional !!! i tried not to look like i was unsure, because i was but also honoured they should want to ask me to do that sort of thing, anyway been playing around with some ideas and looking at woods with his future wife – now its sunk in it doesnt sound so daunting for me – 10 pieces and im now looking forward to starting this project.

Luckily the wedding is not till aug 2015 so i have plenty of time to do 10 centre peices, so at the moment im playing around with ideas and at the weekend will attempt some sort of rough idea !!

I will post pics of the progress as i go along here.

wish me luck haha

thanks for reading

Just think of how much more special those things will be. I’m sure you will do a fine job. Post some pictures so we can have a look. Good luck

Good thing some people can plan way ahead like that, gives you plenty of time to make mistakes-I mean
plan changes-and come up with something that will satisfy everyone. Please keep us posted, and have fun
with the projects.

Sandy that looks good! What kind of wood and finish? Are you going to change up the design?

I’m the last one you should ask about finishes! I’ve several projects at that stage and stalled. I put a layer on (poly) then I’m pretty sure I end up sanding it all off just to even out the drips and puddles I didn’t see when it was wet!
