Bevel Angles on a TS - 7 replies

Been pondering this for a bit. When Someone/plan/etc says cut a 29° bevel. I always get things stuck in my head. I use one on those digital bevel boxes so that part is easy. Where I get jumbled up is that 29° from the table which is at 0° from the blade which is at 90°. So should I zero my box on the table, then put it on the blade. Make sure it...

Nice Score on some Spanish Cedar - 3 replies

I needed a stick of cherry to fix a mistake for my Cherry Quarter Round Display Shelf project. So I went down to the local wood store at lunch time. While looking for my cherry board my eyes fell upon a couple of pieces of 8/4 wood that was about 8 ft long and about 10” wide. They both had some saw blade kerfs about 2” to 3” at...

The New Delta Unisaw - My first peek - 9 replies

They are now in at my local woodcraft, I spent about 10 minutes looking at it yesterday. Fit and finish are very nice the two wheel up front are massive and spin/bevel very quickly and extremely smoothly. The only thing that stuck on the negative side, was the insert. It has the large width typical of a cabinet saw, however it seemed a bit chins...

Shorts Lumber Storage - on the ceiling of my loft. - 6 replies

I have an execisve amount of shorts that I want to keep but want to get off of my big lumber storage rack. This is one of the solutions I am gonna use. I have dead space on the ceiling of my loft above where my garage door goes. This is designed to fit between the lights I have there and should not interfere with the door. It is 9” wide X...

Repairing a Cracked body on a user plane. - 5 replies

I picked up a Stanley #5 off e-bay a while back. Examined closely upon recipt and didn’t notice any major flaws at that time. It was rusty and well used but looked like it could be returned to a usable state with a some TLC. Flash forward a couple of weeks I started the cleaning process. After I soaked it in Evapo-Rust I discovered a crack...

On Second thought...... - 8 replies

Have worked all of the cherry lumber over the weekend, I found myself turning to my RAS for all of my crosscuts. I did have several boards that due to width I couldn’t use my CMS, but even then I really like the action and feel of the cut the RAS is giving me. It might sound weird but the feel of the RAS is allot like the TS it is a cuttin...

Bench Plane Setup - 11 replies

I bought myself a Groz #4 a while back and when time permits I have been tying to tune it up and get it working. I have the blade (OEM) nice and sharp and have the chip breaker flattened properly (well I think that I do). However when ever I put everything together and run the plane across a board, the blade immediately chips on the edge and loo...

How do I get it out of the frog without damaging it threads? I have a #7 that needs a replacement knob and screw and have a frog from a broken plane wanting to donate that bit. But have not been able to extract it at this point of time. Any hints would be appreciated!

Which Stanley Block Plane? - 3 replies

I am looking at getting one of these as a Christmas gift for a woodworker in my family, I need some time after purchase to get it cleaned up and ready for gift giving. However I am not an expert in which model I should be interested in. I see #60’s, 9 1/2’s, #220. I would like to know which of the older Stanley Block planes I should ...

Face Gluing Phenolic Plywood - 7 replies

I am very interested in using this for the top on my router cabinet. However I am wondering about face gluing this material. To make the top as per plan, I need to glue one piece of 3/4” ply (the phenolic ply) to a 1/2” sheet. I am wondering how well this is going to work. I have been thinking of a couple of different approaches: ...

Sketchup and DaveR - 9 replies

It never ceases to amaze me how kind and sharing people are here at lumberjocks. After posting on my blog abut my RAS Torsion box and how long it took me to get the drawing down, DaveR sat down and recorded not one but two video’s on how to do it quickly and easily. He also extended an offer to me personally to talk to me about Sketchup an...
