Strength, reliability, and affordability

Strength, reliability, and affordability

I bought a set of Ryobi One+ tools a couple of years ago. The reasons I bought the set are several. Affordability was chief among them. I don’t remember how much the set was but it was half what the DeWalt set was while still being 18v. The drill that came with the set was almost the same as the P211 but without the hammer drill feature and the accompanying handle. It was very durable, very dependable, but the trigger switch went out after only a year. I bought a new switch and in...

This machine has me hooked on Jet tools. I had really thought high quality cost a lot more. Granted it doesn’t have some of the features of it’s PowerMatic cousin (they are made by the same company). Power: More than enough. I haven’t been able to slow it down facing 6” wide boards. Reliability: Rock solid, the only issue I have had is with dust collection. I picked up a decent blade for it and hoped for the best. Power: none. It can barely cut a 2” x 4” through the “2” side, don’t even bet on the “4” side. Reliability: Well it hasn’t broken on me yet, but I lost the arbor wrench and without it I can’t change the blade. If you get one, do...

Monster power!

Monster power!

I was trying to decide between a shaper and a high end router table when I came across some info on the Porter-Cable #7518 router. I decided to take a chance on it and I have not been dissappointed. There is a reason this has become the industry standard. While it may lack some of the features of some of the newer routers, the raw power and dead certain reliability of the 7518 more than overcome any shortcoming it might have. It has a 5 position variable speed selector switch that allows ...
