We had some new friends over to see our house and some of my work. My wife plays music with them and the guy makes mandolins. They wanted to see what i am making. So I took the opportunity to start getting my act together for the first s...

I am an elementary school teacher. I just moved to 2nd grade after 16 years in middle school. I have been working with wood for 30 years. I have worked in home construction and remodeling. I mostly do projects for my own home. In the past 3 years, I have returned to turning and like to use exotic wood to turn plates and bowls. I have begun to sell at craft shows in our local area. When I retire in 4 years, I plan to be found in my shop most of the time. I now put in about 20 hours a week there. I still love teaching, but woodworking gives me a different sense of accomplishment. I have been happily sucked into the world of box making. And I thought Turning was addictive. The great examples on LumberJocks keep me inspired.
A little update, 1/13/13 Put my lathe in storage and am now working on somewhere around my 500th box, plus about that many cutting boards. Graduated to ART shows and Galleries. I love going on wood buying trips or looking on the internet. One year to retire, but still enjoying the job.
Update 2/12/15 Retired last June. I have a new home and workshop in Coquille, Oregon.
Three times the space to work and some nice new tools. Life is good!! Getting ready to resume doing shows. Lots of new boxes, cutting boards, and tile trivets. More to do. Hopefully I will be on Lumberjocks more now that moving is done and the shop is complete.
-- Robert, so much inspiration here, and now time to work!!!
