I am do it your self type but try to park in a handicap spot when some one leaves their lumber cart or cat in the spot where I have to get out and move it and when I try to get my wheel chair out and I cant open the door because all the carts are stored in the strip area or a bike is there make me so made . I have went to the manger and ask if they could stop storing them thair to and every time I go there they are so I parked at the front door and they were going to have me towed I one more time point out the problem and I was told I need to park at the fare end and not down where this dose not happen made me madder but I sleep on it and I am steal mad . so form now on I am going use my bumper to move what I need out of the way . I am tired of being treated like a like I can’t do think’s and yes I have tried to get them find and that dose not work the police can’t do that is what I was told. and I am talking a bout the Low’s in McMinnville Oregon where we don’t have a lot of chose to shop whit out going 30 miles or more to shop .

In Ontario Canada, parking in, obstructing etc., a handicapped parking spot….......pretty hefty fine and the police patrol the area, ...............the handicapped parking is always clear.

I have had the same issues with carts and such. The one that is bad is motorcycles parked int he stripes next to the handicapped and you can’t use your wheelchair lift to get out. My town and stores are awesome. I tell the manager and they immediatly get someone out there to get the carts. I have also had police write tickets on the spot for motorcyles. I sit and watch and wave at them!!!!!!! Please people don’t use the striped areas as a storage spot for carts it is a pain in the ass to get in and out. Stop being so dang lazy and take the carts where they need to be. Also if you do this the carts won’t go sailing across the parking lot into a car on a windy day!!! Good post and I would just my bumper if this keeps becoming a problem!!

I agree something should be done about, Try the local news ,or newspapers. I;m sure lowes would not like bad publicity. JIM

I have not found the Police in Ontario ever enforcing the handicapped spots. At least not in Stratford, Seaforth and Goderich. But then again, I have not seen them do much enforcing of any kind.

yeah, it’s really annoying when I see someone blocking or actually parking in the handicap spots without a valid sticker…

First, a bit of back ground. The handicap laws in the US are just that. LAWS. They are not ordinances. If they were ordinances, then the local jusridiction could ‘interperet’ the implemantation, use, and encorcement.

Since they are laws, the local jurisdiction is forced, by law, to enforce them. All of the rights are in your corner. You are not asking for special treatment, you are just vocalizing the flustration experienced by every other DP. The rights are your, YOU MUST BECOME VOCAL.

Use your cell phone. Call the PD and give them the paticulars, including the license number of the motorcycle/automobile/truck blocking your way. File a protest over the cart blocking your parking. The retail business is required BY LAW to provide and maintain the handicap parking spaces. By reporting to the local jurisdiction, you are forcing the enforcement of what is yours, by law.

Get the Lowe’s manager into a hot spot with the local jurisdiction. He will learn of his responsibilitys. He will get over it.

Side note: A year ago, a ‘Big Bubba’ type parked big shiney pickup in a DP parking place and ran into a fast food place. A community officer saw this unfold, and walked inside and confronted ‘Bubba’. Bubba stated loudly, his refusal to leave the resturant until he had his food. The cop slapped the cuffs on and towed his over grown pickup. There were 8 or 10 of standing watching this unfold. We applauded the officer.

BTW, my daughter is a DP and severely needs the use of the handicap parking space. I understand only some of your feelings.

Robert,

Contact the corporate office and tell them what’s going on. Keep going up the chain of command all the way to the CEO if needed. I’ll bet that would get the store managers attention.

Another thought would be to contact your local media and tell them your story. Local new channels love to cover this kind of stuff in our area.

Complain to Lowes corporate. Go over that bonehead managers head… And tell Corporate that you ARE blogging about it in DIY forums and are letting consumers across the nation know about your experience…

I am not 100% certain from your description, but you may have a case against Lowes based on the Americans With Disabilities Act.

And NO I do not like to recommend legal action if none is needed… But it also irritates me that some retailers treat their customers like second class citizens…

Not going into the details on it, but I do have the blue placards in my vehicles. I know where you are coming from, sort of…

I was at Toy’s R Us last night in the driving rain..(Well at least when I parked and went in)..I found what I was looking for and left. It had stopped raining. And I realized that I had parked on the stripes. I felt like a complete ass. Luckily the parking lot was empty (due to the weather) but still I was a loser.

If you can get Lowe’s attension & the local police to help resolve this, you will have helped all the DP in the area. Stay mad, stick with it. You will help others.

It seems to bee a worldwide problem when the city´s have richt´s X nr. of people
they seems to take no care of anybody ells and only thinking of themself (with a good help from the last
30 years where it has change from thinking what can you do for others to what can they do for me and allso
becourse of general raise in education and what they earn at work and they are teached to think “take the point from there weiw as individuel instead of seeing it as beeing a member of the fammily, city, state)
a good exsample of that is how the banks give big bonus and stokeoptions to the employ´s witch make that wold greedy even today they still give big bonus
that is no exscuse for the behavier from them I realy feel sorry for your truoble and I say fight it
for your own sake and every one that is in your position or has some of the same truoble
it cuold bee that you are the strongest in the area (if you now what meen)

I´m realy glad that I raised me from the wheels again after a big crash in 1981 but it still piss me off
every time I see stupidity like that you descripe and I walk over to those kind of people and speak with
realy big words big time once the police was called in becourse someone thought I was attacking
the other person :-)

just my 2 cent
