Good afternoon everyone. Thank you all for the warm welcome to Lumberjocks. I’m off to a slow start as far as getting my profile set up, but shortly I will be putting on some pictures of my almost completed workshop. I’m am relatively new to woodworking, but I have taken several woodworking classes in Manchester and one in New London (both in Connecticut). If all goes well I am planning on retiring in about 3 years and look forward to enjoying many more in my new shop building furniture for my wife. I am particularly fond of shaker furniture and I will reaching out for advice. But the most important thing on my plate as of today is my daughter is expecting my first grandchild, a little girl, in June. I am under the gun to build her a cradle. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that can help me find a nice set of plans or perhaps send me some pictures of one they have built? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, and I look forward to contributing to the site.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. Building furniture is both fun and rewarding. If you are building a shop in Connecticut I am sure it will be well insulated. I have relatives in New London and have been there many times, some in winter. A little too cold for me. My wife is originally from there and moved to New orleans a long time ago to escape the cold.
When we were in New London this past summer we drove to one of the shaker villages and saw a lot of shaker furniture on display and numerous books describing all aspects of design and building. This might be a worthwille place to gather much of the info you need.

Roughcut, congratulations on the upcoming granddaughter. They are indeed something special. I am sure you will be a lot like the rest of us who are grandparents in that the grandchildren seem to be a lot more fun than their parents ever were (or at least from what I can remember). :)

Here is a search for cradles that have been posted here. Look them over, and if you see one that suits you, send the LJ a message with your request for plans or drawings.

Hope this helps.
