My Shop is my 2-car garage (about 19’ x 19’). It sits under our family room so the ceiling is lower than I would prefer but, even so, I’m still happy with the outcome. Since the conversion I think it’s the best insulated room now in our home so it’s pretty economical to heat during our long, cold Ottawa winters! Everything in the shop is on some kind of mobile base which allows some reconfiguration if necessary. I guess I’m one of the few who still has a radial saw (Craftsman digital 10”). My table saw and largest router (Triton 3.25 amp) share the same shop-built table to preserve space. My planer spends a great deal of time upside down underneath another shop-built table which serves as an out-feed table. When needed, the planer swings up and uses the table saw as an out-feed table. I have a radial arm drill press, 18” Craftex bandsaw, small oscillating sander, small stationary belt/disc sander, 6” jointer and various small power tools and hand tools. My dust collection system is powered by a Craftex 2 hp collector, modified by a shop-built “Thein” separator. My latest acquisition was a retirement gift from family and co-workers (a Nova DVR lathe). It’s probably my last big acquisition because I have no more room! Since I also work with visual art, I’m fortunate to have a basement art studio, adjacent to the shop where I can also do design work for my wood projects.
