Easter Eggs

I made a bottle stopper out of Tulipwood.

My wife liked it and suggested I make some Easter eggs for our two nephews who are also God-children. Never to turn down an authorized trip to the shop, I agreed. First was to get some Tulipwood and cut roughly to length.

Then I chucked it up…

...turned a tenon…

...reversed it…

...roughed the egg shape…

...turned off the end…

...and asked The Boss if the egg in an “egg cup” was acceptable. Well, no.

I didn’t know how to proceed from there. I put it out and a fellow Jock (I am terribly sorry I forgot who, ‘cause I’d love to credit him) linked me to a site with some rather detailed instructions.

I got a chunk of Southern Yellow Pine…

...and turned a jam chuck.

Here it is toward the end of the process. (I missed the pictures of doing the tenon end removal)

A couple of shots of the finished eggs.

2 x 4 Challenge: I'm done (I'm finished)

Ok, it’s over. I was unable to pull off my project. I was making a full-scale soprano ukulele. 2×4 material does not bend without splitting, cracking and scorching. I enclose the following picture of the neck just to show I was serious. It was fun, at least the parts that were not frustrating. Good luck to all who are in the contest for the prize. Stewart, I wish I could vote for your chair.

My Winter Awards 2008 entry

Not much of a first entry, but I got my 2×4 today. I darned near grabbed a ten footer by mistake, but it looked too long. Wanting to strictly adhere to the rules I replaced it with a standard stud. I won’t get much done before Christmas as we are having 16 guests and the Boss and I are in a cleaning frenzy. I get dirty looks everytime I sit down for a minute.
