I’m building a new bench. I have plenty of room. What do you all think of using 4×8 sheet of 3/4 plywood screwed & glued to either 3/4 MDF or melamine, supported every 2’. I want it to be as flat as I can…...I do mostly small stuff, doesn’t have to be super strong…..

Using a dowel/ pivot - 4 replies
Made a box that I want the top to pivot open, managed to drill opposing holes that correspond pretty well, glue dowel in one side & just press the other side on, but it’s a bit wonky. Wondering how to make it stay on. Only want to drill part way through the top so the dowel doesn’t show. How to lock it on?

Sanding walnut - 13 replies
So I pick a nice piece of walnut for the grain but when I sand it the grain pretty much disappears and the wood gets lighter in color, nothing like before it was sanded. Replacement motor for joiner - 5 replies
The 1/2 hp 3450 rpm motor in my ancient joiner burned out. I’m getting a 1hp replacement. Choices are Marathon, Weg or Packard. Anybody know about brands?Thx

I just can’t seem to get it right. I drew a straight line, set the depth shallow, run the piece through on each side, but it doesn’t follow the line. It stops cutting about halfway through. I’m assuming I should push down on the cut end, but maybe that’s wrong. WHen I finish a few pieces I line them up – nice ...
