Drill Press Stabilization

Floor mounted drill presses can be a little top heavy and tipsy. It is usually recommended that one bolt a floor mounted drill press to the floor. I don’t want to drill any more holes in the floor than necessary but I wanted my drill press to be secure. Here is my answer.

Rich, that will certainly work. The drill press isn’t going anywhere being anchored like that.

That would solve the problem, I never would thought of that.

I might comment that, due to space limitations, my DP is close to a corner. I have adequate space around it for virtually everything I do but, on occasion, I may want to move the DP so I have more working area around me. With this setup, I would remove 2 nuts and slowly slide my 200 pound DP where I wanted to take it. If I had bolted it to the floor I would still only have to remove 2 nuts but then I would have to lift it up to clear the anchors sticking out of the floor. Sliding is preferable to lifting.
