Poplar or Sycamore? Wood ID Help - 19 replies
I bought quite a few reclaimed 4×4 hardwood posts a while back for my workbench build. Because they were rough sawn and a little weathered they all looked pretty stinking similar, so I just picked out the straightest ones I could find with the least amount of checks and splits. Once I started getting them cleaned up, I found that I have qui...

Saw Files from the Big Box Stores? - 9 replies
I picked up an old Harvey W. Peace big rip saw yesterday at the flea market and want to start putting this thing to use. I have watched Paul Seller’s video on saw sharpening and I need to get some saw files, however I would prefer to purchase something locally instead of ordering online. So my question is, are there options for files at th...

Work Bench Conundrum - 16 replies
I have finally started in on my work bench build, and decided to go the cheap route and use construction grade “whitewood” aka SPF (Spruce, Pine, Fir) for the build. I have ripped the rounded edges off, laminated the first portion for the top, which comes out to about sixteen inches wide, and doesn’t include some extra width pl...

Using Real Copper with Cracks and Voids? - 9 replies
I seem to remember a project or two where Copper was used to fill voids and then epoxied in. It looked like the copper had actually been melted or turned into a nugget that would conform to the sape of the void, but I can’t say for sure. Does anyone know how this is done? I would like to try it in a couple table tops that I’m working...

Where should I go in Dallas? - 4 replies
I actually have no idea if this is in the correct forum, so feel free to move it if necessary. I’m going to be heading to Texas later this week and will be in Dallas for a day or two before heading to Waco for a Baylor game. Sic’ em Bears! However, while I am in Dallas, where should I go to check out some new tools? I have already de...

Rockwell 14" Band Saw Opinions - 7 replies
There’s a retired gentleman who lives not far from me listing a 14” Rockwell bandsaw, drill press and lathe. $600 for all three or 250 each. The one that I’m really interested in is the band saw but I don’t know a whole lot about this particular saw. Do y’all think it’s worth the 250? I’d probably just b...

Decent Deal on Pecan? - 8 replies
There’s a guy about an hour from where I live selling 1700 board feet of Pecan that’s air dried for about 10 years for a dollar a board foot. However he isn’t very keen on selling it in smaller quantities. I told him I’d be willing to take about 200 board feet, but don’t have enough room to store more than that. Do ...

Giant Oak Burl - 2 replies
I saw this post while perusing craigslist today. I’m not associated with this listing, but I’d sure love to slice up this burl. Maybe one of the fellow Jocks can use it.http://littlerock.craigslist.org/mat/3929343659.html

DeWalt DW733 Thoughts - 26 replies
I have the opportunity to pick up a DeWalt DW 733, which I have read good things about, but they were all old reviews. The asking price is $200 and it comes with all of the accessories and is lightly used. Used planers are few and far between in my area and it’s between this and a used craftsman 12 1/2” for $175. What are your though...

Greater Resaw Capacity? - 3 replies
I found an older Ridgid 14” bandsaw for pretty cheap the other day, but the Resaw capacity is only 6 inches. What I am trying to figure out is if it is possible to modify a band saw to increase the saws ability to resaw wider stock. I’m pretty much a band saw novice so any info is appreciated. Thanks, Richard

FAS 4/4 Kiln Dried Hickory, Good Deal? - 9 replies
There’s a guy near me selling about 900 board feet of 4/4 FAS Hickory for $1.80 a board foot. I have noticed that it seems not that many people on here use hickory, especially for furniture, and I am wondering why. Also, does this sound like a pretty good deal on hickory lumber? Thanks, Richard

New Jointer Problem - 5 replies
I bought a new Buffalo 6” long bed jointer a couple of weeks ago and after I got it home I got it set up preliminarily and ran a piece of scrap through just to make sure everything was working alright. Well last night I was getting it set up and making sure the in-feed and out-feed tables were co-planer, and that the fence was true and squ...

Sinker Heart Pine and Some Hardwoods - 12 replies
There’s a guy near me listing sinker heart pine from the 1800s and he also has some sinkers that he believes to be either hickory and/or walnut. He’s willing to mill it for 1.50 a board foot. What I’m trying to fugue out is if there are some things that I need to look out for before buying. Anyone have experience with sinker ha...

JET 6" Jointer - 11 replies
The lack of decent used Jointers in my area has started making me a little desperate. So I’m interested in this JET JJ-6CS, but the guy is asking 600, which seems really pricey. What would you offer on this jointer?http://littlerock.craigslist.org/tls/3794056714.html

Jet 10" Benchtop Jointer Planer - 5 replies
After continuously searching craigslist for a decent jointer and planer I think I am leaning towards buying one new. I really like the idea of the Jet JJP-10BTOS 10” Benchtop Jointer Planer, but don’t know a whole lot about it. Does anyone own on of these or have you heard much about them? Thanks for any info you might have.

I Like My New Bedrock - 1 reply
I picked up this Stanley Bedrock 605 for about 80 bucks last week along with a nice little smoother and a #7 jointer. All I have to say is I love my new bedrock. I still haven’t gotten around to tuning the other two. I’ll post some better pictures here pretty soon.

Another TS Find (Rockwell/Delta) - 6 replies
Ok, I know I just got a Ridgid 3650, but there is an older Delta/Rockwell Homecraft Model 9 for sale, but I don’t know anything about this saw. It appears to resemble a small Unisaw or something like that. It’s only a hundred dollars. What do y’all think?http://littlerock.craigslist.org/tls/3747749729.html
