My review of the Ridgid EB4424 Oscillating Spindle Sander

Hi, after much deliberation, and reading and rereading the FWW review, I bought the EB4424, Ridgid Oscillating Spindle Sander. 7/24/15 Update:I returned the unit, and bought a 2nd one. It is more or less the same; certainly no better. All the same issues below apply. I have not powered it on yet, but the tilt-able table is not flat—with the same sort of crown near the spindle. If the tilt-able table is set perpendicular to the spindle, than it is not co-planer with the fixed...

Major Issues with Ridgid EB4424 Oscillating Sander

I purchased this ridgid sander 2 days ago after reading a lot of great reviews. The assembly went together very quickly and easily and the fit and finish of the sander appeared to be on par with the price. It wasn’t until I installed the belt assembly onto the spindle that I first noticed something wasn’t right. When installing the “spindle knob” (item 1 in the attached parts list diagram), I noticed that the threads were not even close to concentric to the shank of th...

Well, Ms. Santa has been nice to me once again. I casually mentioned this once upon a time to the wife while at Home Depot and lo and behold I find it under the tree. I love this thing! Works great, no complaints. Yes I have used the snot out of it already. I really like the edge sander the best.

Though there are other positive review results on this sander, I thought I’d give my thoughts. My spindle sanding adventure, I first started off with a Rockwell Spindle Sander Shop Series RK9011 in which was a failure, I posted a review on it here,, once it failed I purchased the Jet Model 708404 thinking I was getting a 6” sander only to get it home and find out it’s actually a 4”, you only get 4.5” above the table though the drums are 6” didn’t...

Exceeded my expectations!

I’m impressed with the Ridgid EB 4424 . For a lot of years I’ve been using my drill press with drum sanders to do what I bought this tool for. It’s hard to find drum sanders (that mount in a drill press) that are at least round, if not even concentric to their arbor shafts. For the last few years that more and more spindle sanders have been showing up in the tool catalogs, I’ve been reading the reviews. I was not impressed, although I was ready to try one just because ...

These have been reviewed a bit by others, but I just want to add a resounding “This is a great tool” to the heap. Lumberjock YBNORMAL lives in the same town as I do, so when he told me his was great and gets lots of use I had to take the plunge. I found it still priced at $199 at the BORG. I snagged a Husky support table at the same time ($35) so that I could mount this sander to it and have it a floor model from day one. Very sturdy when joined and perfect height for me. ...

A Huge Help!

A Huge Help!

I picked up this Ridgid Oscillating Edge Belt/Spindle sander on 1/22/2011. I had done one band saw box and had four more in progress and wasn’t looking forward to all of the sanding they were going to require. Being the lazy guy I am, I wanted to find a tool to do some of the work for me. I read a number of reviews about sanders and this one seemed to get decent reviews and the oscillating belt sander feature appealed to me. The price wasn’t bad at $199 for what it offers. I also ...

This has been quite an upgrade from my previous methods of sanding – hand belt sanding (never comes out at quite 90 degrees), or drum sanders on the drill press (I can never find sanding drums taller than 1-2 inches. The sander is marketed to homeowners, and small businesses and it really fills a niche. It won’t replace a random orbit sander, but it is a great compliment to any shop. I selected the Ridgid sander based on my positive experience with their tools in the past (drill p...

Bought this one based on the reviews a year ago and Im not sorry I did! This is a great sander both. I love the ability to go from a spindle sander to the belt. Even came with plenty of diff. spindle sizes. The dust collection has been great, and it’s so quiet. This is a huge time saver on projects. At $200.00 this is a must have for the shop.

After 3 times of returning and changing, finally got one that works. The first one had trouble with knob adjustments. Second one had metal shaving coming out, adjustments didn’t work.————————————————————————————————————————————...
