Dewalt 13” thickness planer review

I’ve had this planer for 3 months and I am very satisfied. It’s a huge upgrade from my ryobi planer. I had some really rough mahogany that it planned down with no issues. The ryobi died trying to take off a 1/16” cut. I’ve put a bunch of hard wood through it as well as some cutting board projects. No chatter no sniping. I’ve planes down 3/4” strips to 1/8” thick. I put a review on YouTube you can check out the link below. https://youtu.be/pJLDbD2y7wM

DW735 / DW735X Dust Collection

DW735 / DW735X Dust Collection

12-19-2017 12:32 AM by DakotaHeirlooms | 8 comments »

I recently ordered a DW735X to replace my old DW734. Note the difference between the DW735 and the DW735X is that the DW735X comes with an extra set of blades and the extension tables. The machine has worked as advertised so far. I can’t feel any difference on the finish between the 2 speeds. Snipe is negligible. I think the complaints I’ve read about the blades not lasting is because the user is taking too much material at a time. The only problem that I had with the DW735 is the dust col...

For all practical purposes DW735 doesn't produce snipe...

I am not going to use the micrometer like Matthias Wandel did to measure the snipe in his review of DW735 but I will let you see the lack of it (for all practical purposes) with your own eyes by attaching my camera to the board and sending it through the planer (you will see the straight line that the cutter head produces on both ends) and then checking for snipe with the straight edge. Disclaimer: if you look really close and use the micrometer you will find a tiny snipe. My point is–for ...

A real workhorse

A real workhorse

I’ve had this planer for almost 2 years now so I’ve had plenty of time to make up my mind I think. I got it as a package with the add-on tables and an extra set of blades. Out of the box all I needed to do was get the tables attached and it was ready to go. One thing to know going into this you need something to direct the chips off of it. The chip blower REALLY works and wood chips will be flying all over. I made the mistake of using it without anything and it looked like a torna...

Good performance but I wouldn't buy it again

Good performance but I wouldn't buy it again

The planer itself performs very well. It has a heck of a chip ejection system that will allow you to pipe this into a filter bag without the need for a dust collector. I’ve never had an issue with the amount of power it has even at full 13” wide passes. Snipe is horrible out of the box but the way I have my auxiliary bed setup it reduces it significantly. Lots of upgrades and options available on the internet. The reason I wouldn’t buy it again is that it’s a money ...

i just recently i had a mild “must buy all the tools i need now” break down. I got sick of not having what i need and having to work around my lack of tool problem. so i sat out to but a big cabinet saw. the gentleman i bought it from also had the dewalt DW735 planner he only used a few times. after a little negotiating i stole it for 200 bucks. and might i add this think didn’t have a single scratch on the out feed tables. it was BRAND NEW. i LOVE it. i comes with the tool ...

Got me a new DeWalt 735X

Got me a new DeWalt 735X

Freight truck delivered it to day. Instruction manual is good. Got it unpacked and assembled on my stand in less than an hour. Ran the first wood through it at the dimension speed, a rough 4/4 piece of Pin Oak. Amazing finish, even at that speed. I’m sure the slower speed (more cuts per inch) will be just as pretty. Oh, and not a hint of snipe!Attaching the tables was a snap and, they are dead even with the bed. Did I mention….no snipe! The depth of cut indicator and the cutter ...

Planer..the only one I will ever own

Planer..the only one I will ever own

This planer is awesome. It is pricey, but I personally feel you get good value for it. I have seen it for $599 – $699. I paid $599. So shop around. This sucker is a beast. I mean heavy. For my shop it sits on a rolling cart that is much larger than the planer. I saw recently a guy who built a portable stand for his and it was no much wider than the planer itself. I cringed at the thought of it catching on a wood chip and falling over. I assure you once it starts falling there is n...

Great Purchase - Refurbished Nonetheless

Great Purchase - Refurbished Nonetheless

I bought this planer a few months ago from ToolKing.com (http://www.toolking.com/) for about $450. It has been one of the best purchases and additions to my shop. I read reviews about people having issues with dull blades, etc. I have ran a tone of wood from pine to oak to maple through this planer and the factory blades are perfect. The key is not running too much wood at once. The only issue that I have had is that the rollers need to be cleaned every so often and the feed plate should...

Out of the box, I'm thrilled

Out of the box, I'm thrilled

When I began pondering the purchase of a thickness planer, I researched Fine Woodworking and saw that the DEwalt 735 was rated the best. My plans were to purchase this model when I decided it was time. As many of you likely read, I was drawn in by the helical head Steel City, and had some issues with it out of the box. As I said in that review, maybe I got a one-off lemon, but nonetheless, I wasn’t that impressed. Fortunately Chris from Highland Woodworking, where I ordered the ...
