It is not too often someone other than a writer from a woodworking magazine gets to buy 2 different models of the same tool and compare them. I looked through the Grizzly catalog and website and did some paper comparision. I chose the G0586 for the school shop. It was $100 cheaper and had handwheel adjustments for both the tables and the fence. So, back in March or so of this year I was shopping for a new jointer to replace an old 6” Delta / Rockwell that was bought and subsequently sold on CL. After using the 6” for a while and learning its capabilities and limitations, I decided I wanted a larger machine. It has taken me a few weeks but I have finally got my new planer and jointer all adjusted and running. I ran about 30 bf a cherry through them for a project I am working on. This is the first Grizzly purchase that I have made and I will definitely look at Grizzly when I go to upgrade my 9” crapsman band saw that I got for $35 on Craig’s list.The fit and finish we about what I expected. My new machine arrived nicely packaged. No complaints about missing parts or damage. Was actually not too heavy to move into the basement with the help of two friends. Assembly took a little while – the harder part being aligning and tightening the belt. In fact, I think my belt is still too loose, as at start-up and shut-down the machine makes a bit more noise than I’ve read others with the same machine were able to achieve.
