Second photo from Rikon~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Reason for buying:I’ve had an old 14” Taiwanese saw for quite a few years, so I looked at some reviews on Band saws, & decided this would be the one for me. I shopped around the internet, & decided to buy it from Woodcraft. It was $750, & free shipping, so I saved $75, enough for a few gallons of gas.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Pros: The price f...

I received some appletree logs from someone on craigslist, and was contemplating how I can get them into project lumber. I had looked around for small mills, but it wasn’t really worth it since I only have a few smaller logs… then it got me to think, maybe I can do it myself… hence started the interest in bandsaws. the more I researched about it, the more I was fascinated by the capabilities of a bandsaw and all the things it can do. I have a fairly limited budget, and so...

i have been using a craftsman 20401 14 inch bandsaw for almost 4 years now. not a bad saw at all but not ment to be used to resaw almost every day. needless to say it was showing some wear. started looking at all the saws that were 14 inches both the jett and powermatic only had 15 inch tables too small for me. so that left the ricon only thing i did not like was the guide bearings they are the same as what was on the craftsman. started looking around and found the carter brg,s replaced the b...

A Great Band Saw at a Great Price

A Great Band Saw at a Great Price

Rikon makes a great product for a particular market segment. That segment fits between the lesser-expensive Steel City 50100 and the Grizzly G0555X crowd and the more expensive Powermatic, General, Delta, and of course, Laguna. So, the simple question: How often will you use the band saw to realize the gains in quality and performance if you spend that extra money? The band saw is a key tool in my woodworking, so it needs to be be reliable and effective in making my projects easier to crea...

It was between the Grizzly G0555X, G0513 and the Rikon Deluxe. I deliberated the total cost of ownership and quality of each saw. That meant upgrades, modifications, shipping and the number of years I was sure the saw would be useful to me. Many reviews I read on the grizzly’s said that they had vibration issues so they’d need new poly bands for the wheels and other slight modifications that actually add to the total price. I’ve never been ok with sub-par quality so I knew w...

I purchased the Rikon 14’ Ultimate Bandsaw during the Woodcraft 2 day sale this past weekend. So far i couldnt be happier with this purchase! Before i bought this saw all i had was a small Craftsman bench top BS from the 80’s so this is a night and day comparison…. although i have used several other BSs in the past. This review is just an overview of my experience… i agree with all the pros and stats on the other reviews so i wont recap them again! Purchase: Like i...

New saw

Santa is a good person. Saw into my heart, noted the good fella inside and delivered what is now, without doubt, the highest quality tool in my shop. He left the unit in the store, only asking that I pick it up, load and unload it into the truck, muscle it down into the shop, unpack it, assemble, and tune it up. And that is a lot of work. It weighs 240 lbs.It is hard to move and assemble by one’s self. Kids did not buy the Santa story. Assembly by one who has never really use...

Questionable Warranty

Questionable Warranty

I purchased a Ricon 10-325 bandsaw on November 23, 2011 And let me say that I was in hog heaven; however today I discovered that one of the guide bearings was frozen, and I called Ricon Tech Support to request a new bearing under the five year warranty. I was also informed that my saw was not under warranty. The Tech Support Specialest I spoke with was a very well mannered and patient young fellow named Jarred, he informed me that these bearings “are a ‘consume-able’ part...

Early but so far so good.

I do a lot of scroll saw work. I use thin stock for most of my projects. My old jet 12” bandsaw could only re-saw six inch stock. That always left me with the problem of either planing away valuable wood or trying to buy scroll saw ready wide boards. Neither option was appealing because of cost. I finally decided to upgrade the saw to something larger with more horse power. On my wish list were at least 12 inches of re-saw capability, 4 inch dust port and a reasonably powerful motor...

Rikon 10-325-14" Band saw

Rikon 10-325-14" Band saw

I bought this saw back in March from Canadian woodworker in Surrey. The prices at the Grizzly plant are very attractive, but these folks are about 10 min from my place. Doug and his crew are a great bunch of guys. It was on sale for $850 and then I drew a card from a hat and that had a further discount of between $25 – $500. I pulled a $50 card. I got the saw home with no problems, a bit heavy but manageable. Lots and Lots of packaging and styrofoam. There was a good coating of g...
