Hitachi M12V, 3 ¼ Hp, Plunge Router

Hitachi M12V, 3 ¼ Hp, Plunge Router

01-25-2008 12:32 AM by Ray | 9 comments »

I have two of these routers!I mounted on in my router table and use the other one for manual jobs. Having a 3 ¼ Hp, 15 AMP motor, the Hitachi M12V is can handle virtually any routing job or bit design. The motor features an infinitely adjustable electronic speed control dial and soft start to make it manageable for hand use. The 8,000 to 20,000 rpm range (no load) dial is divided by 1 through 5 numerals (no detents) on the dial. The On/Off switch is located off the right-side handle and...

Fein Review of the Multimaster

Fein Review of the Multimaster

01-24-2008 10:32 PM by jude | 10 comments »

I pretty much fell in love with the Fein Multimaster within the first 5 seconds of the store demo. Fein has a demo stand set up at the ToolKing Superstore (and probably other places where it is sold) and I tried it out cutting grout. It removed the grout easily and quickly and with no strain on my part. As someone who has used a hand grout scraper to scrape out the group in a bathroom, this tool was like a dog door to a 9-5er. The Fein Multimaster will save you time because it does all th...

Veritas Large Shoulder Plane

Veritas Large Shoulder Plane

01-24-2008 02:16 AM by TheGravedigger | 13 comments »

Every now and then you stumble upon a tool that makes you wonder how you ever got by without it. For me, that was the shoulder plane. My present workbench base project was going to require 28 large mortise and tenon joints, and practice joints showed me that fitting was going to be difficult. I had tried a combination of block plane and chisel to clean up the tenon cheeks and shoulders, but the intersection of the shoulder and cheek kept causing me problems. The shoulder plane seemed like the...

An Essential Read

An Essential Read

01-23-2008 08:48 AM by thewoodwhisperer | 9 comments »

**This review was pulled from a previous blog post on The Wood Whisperer Many of you may already know Chris Schwarz. He is an editor for Popular Woodworking Magazine and a self-confessed hand-tool and workbench enthusiast. His most recent work is a book called Workbenches, truly a modest title for what is contained within those 144 pages. Perhaps it was just great timing, since I am currently focusing on my hand tool skills, but this book really struck a chord with me. In fact, since my tw...

Delta did it right for this drill press

Delta did it right for this drill press

01-23-2008 06:15 AM by GaryK | 6 comments »

This heavy-duty 16-1/2-inch drill press from Delta will do the job. The 3/4-horsepower motor that can be wired for either 115 or 230 volts. It gives you an deep plunge length of 4-7/8 inches. Very Nice Dovetail Saw

Very Nice Dovetail Saw

01-23-2008 05:54 AM by Mike Lingenfelter | 16 comments »

I love the feel of this saw. The grip is comfortable in my large hand. The saw has a nice “heavy” feel to it. The saw cuts straight and true. It has a rip tooth configuration, with a narrow set. The narrow set helps the saw cut straight, once your cut is started. Once I figured out how to start my cuts, with a light touch push stroke, cutting became very easy. Although, I still have some work to do on my dovetail joints :). www.lie-nielsen.com

One Great Marking Gauge

One Great Marking Gauge

01-23-2008 05:26 AM by Mike Lingenfelter | 3 comments »

It cost a little more than most marking gauges, but I love this guy. It’s incredibly easy to adjust, with only one hand. It’s amazing smooth when adjusting. The one I have is 7” long. It came with: the standard marking blade, 2 adjustable tenon blades, and 1 large cutting blade. You can buy this guage at several different sites. You can find out more about the gauge and other Glen Drake tools at their web site glen-drake.com.
