The Most Powerful Cordless Drill You'll Ever Own

The Most Powerful Cordless Drill You'll Ever Own

Millers Falls started making bit braces in 1864. The 772 with a 10-inch sweep was produced from 1914 to 1957. One of the main features is its “Lion” chuck, which allows it to hold square, round or tapered shanks with ease. Indeed, I have had used both auger bits as well as “regular” wood boring bits normally used in electric drills. Someone who has never used a bit brace will be surprised at the power you have with it, whether boring holes or say, driving screws! An...

Great saw for a beginning woodworker

Great saw for a beginning woodworker

01-22-2008 06:29 AM by jstewart | 4 comments »

I’ve owned my saw for only a year now, so I haven’t had as much time with it as many of the other LJs out there. Still I think I’ve become good friends with it already. As a person that is new to woodworking, I think this saw is outstanding. Up front, let me make this clear. The model number 36-979 refers only to the saw with 2 cast iron wings. I bought the Delta 36-980 which is the saw (36-979) plus a 30” T-fence. Other Delta models such as the 36-977, 978, 98...

A very versatile block plane

A very versatile block plane

01-22-2008 04:17 AM by Mike Lingenfelter | 4 comments »

This Skewed Block Plane can be used for many operations. It can be used to work on end-grain, like a standard block plane. It has a fence and nicker so that you can work on tenons and rabbets. The nicker can be moved so that it is engaged or not. I’ve used it to clean up some tenons and it work beautiful. The skew blade really helps to reduce tear-out when going across the grain. I haven’t added an auxiliary fence to mine yet, but it’s coming soon. It come in Iron o...

Really Good and Inexpensive Sander

Really Good and Inexpensive Sander

01-22-2008 04:17 AM by Huckleberry | 7 comments »

To me having an oscillating spindle sander is kind of a luxury. So when Menard’s had this puppy on sale I decided to buy one and check it out. The ones that I use at school are nice but lack some of the features that this one has. First off cast iron top. Really nice and really heavy. The Wilton’s at school have a laminate top I think that is a pretty big difference. This one weighs in @ 34.5 pounds. Nice storage on board and when I hooked up my shop vac to the 3” por...

One Amazing Jointer

One Amazing Jointer

This #7 was my most recent purchase. It’s one big plane! I’ve used it to flatten some boards that I had ran through my thickness planer. These boards were being laminated together so the surfaces needed to be very flat. You would think a board coming out of a power planer would be flat. A few passes with the #7 shows you that board is far from flat. It also easily removes the snipe you can get with a power planer. The quality of this tool is outstanding. Lie-Nielsen also...

Delta 50-760 1-1/2 HP 1200 CFM Dust Collector

Delta 50-760 1-1/2 HP 1200 CFM Dust Collector

01-22-2008 02:07 AM by RickL | 3 comments »

Just received and set up my new dust collector for the shop. Since I moved in to the enclosed shop out of the garage, I found the 1 hp JET wasn’t doing the job. What interested me about the Delta is the 1 micron upper bag. After reading the recent reviewsd in WOOD Magazine on dust collectors. and doing my own internet research I settled on this unit. Purchased on-line and shipped in by truck. The box was about 95# and not too hard to handle, luck would have it I was home today to receiv...

Monster power!

Monster power!

I was trying to decide between a shaper and a high end router table when I came across some info on the Porter-Cable #7518 router. I decided to take a chance on it and I have not been dissappointed. There is a reason this has become the industry standard. While it may lack some of the features of some of the newer routers, the raw power and dead certain reliability of the 7518 more than overcome any shortcoming it might have. It has a 5 position variable speed selector switch that allows ...

Review of Delta 14-461 Deluxe Mortiser

Review of Delta 14-461 Deluxe Mortiser

01-21-2008 04:45 PM by Al Navas | 6 comments »

The bottom line: This machine works, but you must watch out for several things, common to all mortisers of this type, as I already have pointed out on my recent blog posts. The weak link: The fence. It recently gave me many headaches, as the inside edges of the fence halves did not align properly – in the photo, Edge #1 and Edge #2. This resulted in misalignment of stiles to rails, something that should NOT happen. I probably did something to cause this, or maybe just sitting by a wi...

Ringmaster allows you to create bowls and hollow vessels without turning.

The Ringmaster allows you to create any bowl or hollow vessel that you can create on a lathe – without needing to know how to turn. You can take any flat board between 1/2” and 1” and about 12”x12” and create a bowl, lamp, vase, etc. – from a single piece of wood. You can also combine species to make interesting contrasting projects. Below are a couple of simple projects that I made a couple of years ago. These are simple – there are those out the...

6" Rotary and Orbital Festool RO 150 Sander

6" Rotary and Orbital Festool RO 150 Sander

01-21-2008 05:43 AM by ShannonRogers | 5 comments »

I just bought Festool’s new 6” sander and it is truly everything as advertised. This is my first foray into Festool so I bought the package with the CT 33E dust extractor. Their dust extractors have been reviewed already on LJ so I will try to stay away from the extractor and focus on the tool. That being said, I a lot of my 5 star rating is influenced by the phenomenal dust extraction. Anybody who has done even 1 minute of sanding knows that the dust is what makes it so terri...
