Delta Heavy Duty Precision Miter Guage 36-946

Delta Heavy Duty Precision Miter Guage 36-946

I have only seen this miter guage on ebay – never in a store nor in a Delta catalogue. When you search the product number on the Delta website it only comes up as an accessory to their hybrid tablesaw. The ebayer who lists it sells one a week and I lowballed it for 2 years before I finally got it for $80, including shipping. In the last two weeks they have sold for less than my $50. What an improvement for my vintage unisaw! The design is excellent including an eccentric lock scr...

G reat little impact driver - Bosch PS40-2

G reat little impact driver - Bosch PS40-2

06-10-2008 12:06 AM by GaryK | 16 comments »

I was looking for a small driver so that I wouldn’t keep having to swap bits out in my drill. I wasn’t really looking for an impact driver, but then I found about the rebate Bosch is currently having. Buy an impact driver and get a PS20 (non-impact version) for free. Now it doesn’t include a battery but the PS40 does include 2. So now I get both for the price of one. I got it for the out the door price of $142. How does it perform? Well, I drove a #8×3” deck...

Grizzly Sander

Grizzly Sander

06-09-2008 04:04 AM by brunob | 9 comments »

Had a little extra cash in my pocket so couldn’t resist a trip to Grizzly in Williamsport. I’ve been thinking about a drum sander for some time. I made the purchase. It’s very heavy – takes at least two people to put it together. What was amazing was that it was perfect right out of the box. The conveyer tracked right on and no adjustment was needed for the drum. I have not changed the sandpaper yet but it appears straight foreword. A nice feature is that it has it&...

Orbital Work Horse

Orbital Work Horse

This sander was purchased because I needed one for the workshop but I also needed something to sand the floors we are refinishing in our 76 year old home. This guy proved to be a champ. The floor I started on is about 400 sq.ft. This is pretty much how the entire floor was when we ripped up the carpet; These are the results; This sander, $130.00 plus tax, paired with my Fein Turbo III vacuum busted through carpet adhesive, gouges and scratches in the old yellow pine f...

Forrest Blade

Forrest Blade

06-08-2008 06:00 PM by BillyUP | 5 comments »

My son bought this blade 13 years ago, and in addition to all the furniture projects in the home shop he is a contractor for helping build homes. This blade is his only blade, and was used on site to cut everything for four houses. After cutting some very dense 31/2” Oak, he says it must be time for it’s FIRST sharpen, and intends for no one but Forrest to do it. It still cuts softer wood like butter.Billyup

The perfect blade!

The perfect blade!

06-07-2008 12:42 AM by Len | 16 comments »

I first saw this blade demonstrated at a woodworking show, and was amazed at the smoothness of each cut. The guy not only used the same blade throughout the 3 day show, but intentionally stopped pushing a piece through a cut, removed his hand, and answered a question. While reciting the “don’t try this at home” stuff, he explained that the blade is so perfectly flat, he could get away with doing it. And, because it’s so perfectly flat, you don’t need a stiffen...

the Grizzly G0478 2 hp hybrid cab. saw

So it began by ordering it off line. I was kinda nervous about getting a hybrid, but if i didn’t spend the money i had right then …. my car would have broken down or some mysterious thing would have happen that would have taken all my money. So as i’m patiently waiting like a child before Christmas pacing back and forth for this saw to arrive… The saw finally arrives via Saia Motor transportation at about 7:05 pm …. the driver had a long day, he said, as i talk...

It's worth it.

It's worth it.

Over the last decade or so that I’ve owned my Craftsman contractor’s saw, I’ve come to demand the utmost, penultimate level of mediocrity from it while telling myself that the jump from this saw to the Powermatic 66 is sort of like jumping from my $500 Remington 1100 shotgun to a $3000 custom Baretta over-under: the object is to break clay birds, right? And both throw a lot of lead in the air, which is all that counts, right? And yet, I’ve learned to tune my table sa...

If you want to fall in love with furnituremaking - read this book!

I read this book when I was just starting out. It isa spiritual revelation in terms of what it means to work with wood – and do it well. It’s not a book of plans and there isn’t enough informationin here to teach you how to build anything if you don’thave any skills. This book (and Krenov’s others) are about Feelings. Theyare about discovering the wood and discovering a designprocess that produces furniture that is finely proportionedand intimate –...
