Mule Cabinetmaker M-21 Miter Gauge Fence

Mule Cabinetmaker M-21 Miter Gauge Fence

09-28-2009 03:23 AM by jeffreythree | 1 comment »

I needed a miter gauge fence and decided to order this one with the rip fence I ordered. It looked to be well made and better than any wood add-on I made. I was disappointed when it came in with no packing material, and, sure enough, one of the plastic knobs was busted into 3 pieces. The first pick shows everything that was in the box(except for a little instruction sheet). Today I took apart my trusty old Delta miter guage to drill some holes to mount the fence(it appears to fit more mod...

Great for something, but not for spreading glue!

Great for something, but not for spreading glue!

I hate the idea of tossing out acid brushes after a few uses (they’re steel!) and I’ve been looking for alternatives (for the record, there aren’t any :-) so I bought these little dealios. Long story short, they are TERRIBLE for spreading glue. They act more like a squeegee—pulling glue away from your intended target. Which brings us to what they ARE good for, and that’s scraping glue off once its skinned over. These things are a nice plastic, they are g...

R4510 with PICS!

Hey Everyone - I’ve never posted here before, but I did a lot of research here before buying a replacement for my beloved cast iron Ridgid table saw. It had served me well through a major renovation, but now that the project is complete, I wanted something I could more easily tuck out of the way. I’d narrowed it down to the Ridgid 2410LS and the Bosch 4100, and was leaning toward the Bosch when I dropped in at my local Home Depot. The Ridgid rep happened to be there on a Sat...

Top Saver works as advertised

Top Saver works as advertised

This is an excerpt from my blog posting about restoring my Unisaw. I thought it worked as a review. You can read the original/view the original post HERE. I would have given the product 5 stars except that while it worked much better than I expected in reality it is only as good as the amount of elbow grease you use with it. Enjoy! Where da hail did you get those glasses? You look like yo Aint Bea in Shreveport. Scrubbing away. .Top Saver first pass Top Saver 3 Honey! Top Save...

igaging Router lift

igaging Router lift

09-26-2009 07:13 PM by woodsmithshop | 2 comments »

just purchased and installed the igaging MAGNETIC REMOTE DIGITAL ROUTERLIFT, bought this from Eagle America, it was about $20 cheaper than the Wixey, can’t say it is better, I have not tried the Wixey, but thought I would try this one.the installation instructions were not the best I have seen, but after studying them it was easy enough to figure out, the worst part was having to drill and tap holes in my Jessem router lift so it could be mounted, I broke one tap, so I had to move the p...

Carpenter Jeans Made in America

Carpenter Jeans Made in America

Ok, I know this isn’t about a tool or gadget but most of us wear pants when we work in the shop. Although a couple of LJs I’m not sure of. We hear a lot about the US manufacturing going over seas. These jeans are made in America, with American grown cotton. Actually close to where I like to trout fish in Blue Ridge Georgia. Besides that there are several other things I like about these jeans:1. Comfort. They fit me well. There’s plenty of room in the legs and seat for the...

Shelix cutterhead for jointer

Shelix cutterhead for jointer

09-25-2009 09:58 AM by Jim | 9 comments »

I’ve had my Grizzly 8” G0490 jointer for about 5 years. I’ve been very happy with this jointer. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this same jointer again. About 2 yrs ago I decided to modify it by replacing the cutterhead with a Shelix head. I was working with some highly figured koa and wanted to maximize the utilization of this expensive wood as much as possible by not losing any to tearout. Many people want to know if the helical heads are worth the money. Short answer...

Craftsman 10" SCMS....A DO NOT buy

Craftsman 10" SCMS....A DO NOT buy

09-25-2009 05:22 AM by MedicKen | 18 comments »

I purchased this saw brand new a couple of years ago. I wanted to give it a good run before doing a review. My first overall impression when I was looking for a saw was this would fit the bill and work nicely for my needs. I looked at some of the major brands when I decided I need a SCMS. My first choice was Bosch, but the price drove me away. Then I went to DeWalt but I couldnt find the model I wanted locally and I wasnt gonna pay for shipping. So I guess I kinda settled on this one. I sh...

Good resaw blade

Good resaw blade

09-24-2009 05:09 AM by Sawdust2 | 17 comments »

My Highland Woodworking Woodslicer got dulled up really bad because I did not pay attention when I put it on the Jet bandsaw. I was using a 3/4” and it was really too big for a 14” bandsaw. I ended up running it against the blade guard and just beat the crap out of the teeth. My bad. Markrules is a fellow LJ and reps Morse blades. He suggested that I try their 4 TPI 1/2” blade.Well, when I unfurled the blade one of the teeth caught my thumb. I can tell you that the teeth ...

comparison with Rockwell

The task was to lower a bar stool 2 1/4”.And not have the usual problem with not level legs when we got done. We also had a Fein Multimaster and the new Porter Cable SoniCrafter To ensure the same length was cut off each leg we cut a piece of PVC to 2 1/4”.The Fein and the PC each had a couple of blades that could be used but we took the round serrated blades as they were the same thickness. We just ran the blades around the leg resting them on the PVC. That gave us a uniform...
