I am offering this site as a possible source for LJ’s that might be needing such an item . I see a lot of projects here that use them , so only the LJ’s that have purchased them in the past can determine whether or not this item is as good or better priced . I hope this helps someone in need . : ) http://www.teachersource.com/ElectricityAndMagnetism/NeodymiumMagnets/MicroMagnets.aspx

BowlSaw

BowlSaw

01-31-2009 03:43 PM by DougTx | 10 comments »

I had a very good experience with the 6” BowlSaw. The pictures show a black walnut blank that I now have a bowl and another piece that can be turned into a smaller bowl and/or a box. I followed the instructions included with the tool and did not have any problems. I started at 120 rpms and finished at 400 rpms. Will probably get the 8” tool and thus can core larger blanks and possibly make 3 bowl out of one blank.DougTx

Using Steussy's 6" and 8" bowlsaw

Using Steussy's 6" and 8" bowlsaw

I have used the bowlsaws on soft and hard wood blanks, including Australian Red Gum, expensive burl blanks and other exotic wood, I realised that FINALLY here is a tool for the serious and the hobby turner alike. An inexpensive tool for saving the core of that expensive blank you bought which normally you would turn 75% of into saw dust. The size of the blank you start with will determine if you will get two or three bowls from the one blank and the more depth the blank has will give ...

DeVilbiss MGQ-500

DeVilbiss MGQ-500

Air Gun: DeVilbiss Part of a good finish into the wood or the application of automotive paint, much depends on the gun used, among other factors.Speaking of brands, DeVilbiss, is for me the best brand of air guns in Mexico. But talk of quality is also talk about cost, and the products of this brand is expensive in comparison with the other brands mentioned. DeVilbiss MGQ-500 Currently this model is the most sold in Mexico, it can get at Homedepot or a Wal-Mart. For continuous esca...

Hitachi CW 40 16" Scroll Saw

Hitachi CW 40 16" Scroll Saw

01-29-2009 04:22 AM by MrsN | 8 comments »

For Mother’s Day last year my husband asked what I wanted. I said a scroll saw. I didn’t know what I was going to do with it, but I didn’t have one and I wanted one. Since that is about the same logic that keeps my husband buying chain saws I knew my reasoning would work. (I think the chain saw count is up to 6, just yesterday he came home saying “but I don’t have this one, and it has a turbo, none of mine have a turbo)Not knowing exactly what I would do with the...

Solid brad nailer

Solid brad nailer

01-27-2009 04:39 AM by sry | 4 comments »

After debating for a while, I decided to buy this brad nailer. I was torn between this and the PC 2” model, but when I couldn’t find a good deal on the compressor/nailer combo kit I decided to go a different route. I’m glad I did (although I’m sure the PC nailer would have been great) I went to Home Depot and Lowes to handle some different nailers and see which ones I liked: weight, ease of loading, tip visibility, etc. I ended up choosing this one simply because i...

A leg up on the work bench

A leg up on the work bench

01-27-2009 12:32 AM by Chris Wright | 10 comments »

I had first read about this bench in the September ‘07 issue of American Woodworker. Earlier this month I met the inventor and got to try out the system. The system allows you to have a work surface at a height that you need. I ordered the leg set, the caster set and their “one rail” system. Here’s what they all looked like when the packages arrived. Here’s the legs. They are made from 11 gauge powder coated steal. Here’s the whole ba...

Pretty good deal

Pretty good deal

I want to start off by saying that for all spindle or pen work, this lathe is perfect, the adjustment speeds are great and it is a breeze to operate. The problem is that when you try to turn anything larger than about 3” the whole machine goes to crap. I broke my shop’s midi while turning a 3.5” bowl and I bent the shaft, meaning that nothing can be turned on it ever again. As long as you use this for smaller objects it will serve you well although if you plan on using it...

Penn State Industries Temp 142CX Dust Collector

Penn State Industries Temp 142CX Dust Collector

The dust collection unit that I chose for my 14 X 21 shop was the Temp142CX from Penn State Industries. Some specifications and reasons for picking this unit are as follows: 2 HP, 220V Motor14” Impeller – 6 Fin½ Micron Filter CartridgesUp to 12 DropsUp to 30 Ft. RunsUp to 1200 Sq. Ft.5 Yr. Warranty I used the economy 26 GA duct work which was noticeably heavier than the stores. Penn State had everything I needed to put this unit in. There was nothing that I ordered that they did not hav...

Makita LS1214F 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

Makita LS1214F 12-Inch Dual Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw

01-24-2009 04:57 AM by ND2ELK | 13 comments »

I just bought this Makita 12” sliding miter saw and cannot say enough good about this saw. I went to Acme Tool an hour and a half away in Cedar Rapids so I could play with the Makita, Bosch and Dewalt miter saws. I felt the Makita had the smoothest slides of all three and liked the way the slides are on the bottom of the saw. There was no movment whatsoever and it just seemed like the best quality saw. It was right on the nuts out of the box and I cut all my trim for the shop with it. I would...
