Hey Gang I have subscribed to up to 12 different Magazines at one time and My favorite has been Finewoodworking.I know each woodworker has there own favorite . The truth of the matter is I have complete collections of Fine woodworking , Fine Home building , Wood , Woodsmith, and woodshop News plus a couple hundred books. If you think that takes up a lot of room your right. When they announced the were coming out with a complete collection of Fine Woodworking on DVD I was sceptical about ho...

4 star blade for a 3 star price

4 star blade for a 3 star price

12-31-2008 02:46 AM by marcb | 1 comment »

I purchased this blade for a few dollars more than a standard cheapish Oldham. For this price it is an unbelievable value. The blade is quite and does both rips and crosscuts with very good results. I gave this blade 4 stars compairing it to other blades in other price ranges. I feel that this is fair because a $10 blade usually gives you 1 star worth of performance and the only recommendation is to upgrade to a more expensive blade. Compared to the Oldham blade this is a no brainer,...

Worth Every Penny

Worth Every Penny

I gotta have my music. In fact, for some reason I concentrate better when I have music going than when I don’t. However, with the scream of power tools, it can get lost. Not only that, but something has to help pass the time when sanding! Well, the Work Tune does the job just fine. I picked this one up for $50 from Lowe’s with some Christmas money, and I’m thrilled with it. First the hearing protection: It works great. I can hear the scream of the machines, but n...

More Than Worth the Money

More Than Worth the Money

While wandering through Lowe’s, I saw this bad boy just sitting there with a $30 price tag. Since I found myself in no position to own a table saw for the foreseeable future, it looked like it would solve one of my biggest problems: how to rip boards down. The Accu-Rip attaches to your circular saw with two small screws located at the front of the guide. It takes a bit of time to get it set right, because it’s edge must line up with the blade just so, but once it does, it wo...

Toastiest shop ever

Toastiest shop ever

12-30-2008 01:31 PM by motthunter | 7 comments »

I had debated for a long time to find the best solution to heat my garage shop at home. Forced air is no good since the filters will be clogged with dust all of the time, and a heater that burns the shop air has too many drawbacks including humidity control, possible fires, and consumption of oxygen in the room. I decided that whatever heater I get had to use outside air and vent outside. My choice was this radiant tube heater from SRP. I have it hung and in the photo was still testin...

The Steussy 6" BowlSaw

The Steussy 6" BowlSaw

12-28-2008 06:56 AM by lew | 5 comments »

This is my first tool review at LumberJocks. I received this as a Christmas gift and couldn’t wait to try it out! The saw worked exactly as advertised. I have the 6” model and was able to create a daughter bowl blank that was 4” in diameter and just shy of 2” deep. (The 4” diameter is a little over the limit of this model- see next paragraph). The wood I was using was hard Maple. The most difficult part of the entire process was creating the “slot” in the “parent” bowl to al...

Always something.

Always something.

Well, it is dead on 100% accurate measured against my super square inside and out. I would give it 5 stars but falls way short in the locking department. Good for saw blades, magnet all around, (like it’s little square brother) and nice thick blades. good visible LCD, stable reading and location(not covered by blade). But have to be very careful when using it for what it was designed for that is measuring wall angles due to incredibly lousy locking mechanism.Get one if it’s on super sale.

PSI Strata Blank Impulse Buy

PSI Strata Blank Impulse Buy

12-26-2008 06:21 AM by dmann | 5 comments »

On impulse I added a couple of Strata Bowl blanks to my last pen order from PSI. This entry is part project and part review. I included before/after pictures for comparison. Looking at the blanks when I got them I was a little wary of putting them on the lathe. There seemed to be a lot of dry joints. I picked a blank out today and used the bandsaw to rough out a circle. After cutting off the rough outside edges the integrity of the blank looked better and I decided to give a go at turning ...
