I picked up this sander last night at Lowe’s for $52. Seemed a little sturdier than the bargain basement ones from Black and Decker and Skil. The sander seemed stable and was coformtable in my hand so I brought it home. The ROS20VSK from Bosch already has a review here on Lumberjocks. In fact, that review is what sealed the deal when I was at the store. I wanted to see if the experience of this sander would be the same as the ROS20VSK. I don’t know the relationship between the ...

Perfect broom for cleaning up the shop

Perfect broom for cleaning up the shop

Not exactly a woodworking tool, but a tool for the shop that everyone needs. Tired of getting the sawdust out of tight spaces? These little brooms do an amazing job. In Tagalog they are called a “Walis tambo”, and you can pick them up in most Asian stores and probably Pier 1 Imports. As far as I know they only come in the longer version, so I just cut one down to use on the bench or tablesaw. They get into the tightest places, behind, under and around things. They are ...

After using almost a whole tub (1lb) of SC Johnson paste wax in the last year or so, I caught Renaissance wax on sale at Woodcraft this month and reluctantly bought a can. I say reluctantly since the street price of this stuff is 26 bucks for 200ml or 7 fl. OZ. Little can for 26 or big ole pounder for 8. Ability to buy at Borg or local department store (blue, biggest in the world) or have to buy at specialty shops or order online. You can see my apprehension. But after the rave reviews b...

I picked up a new Nova lathe at the Woodcraft sale last month and have been adjusting to the new spindle size. I sold all my old faceplates with my old lathe I am slowly gathering accessories for the larger spindle size of the new lathe. This gave me a perfect excuse to spring for a Beall Spindle Tap. Using this tool you can tap threads into a block of wood and thread it directly on your lathe spindle. Previously I could only create cusom chucks by clamping a block of wood in my scroll chu...

Maybe I got a bad one, but I'm getting a Grex. This P-C is a loser

Maybe I got a bad one, but I'm getting a Grex. This P-C is a loser

I bought one of these and have been thoroughly disappointed with it. No matter what the air pressure or length of the pin it only sinks them to flush at best. And of course you can’t adjust the depth. If I sand one bit you get a nice shiny (until it rusts later) little 23 gauge nailhead looking at you. I also do not like the fact that it lacks a soft nose. So if you try and hold it a little tight to get the pin sunk as far as possible you get a dent in the wood that is a lot worse ...

new General drill press

new General drill press

this was my christmas gift(from me to me). I was looking to buy a drill press for a long time. It’s a nice tool, cast iron head and base and it’s heavy so it’s stable. The motor is 3/4HP and has enough power for me. It is made by General so like all the tools they do it is perfect…..

Extraordinary Abrasive

I have recently been undertaking a lot of experiments with the relatively new product called Abranet, made by a Finnish company called Mirka. I have been using their cloth and paper backed disks for many years, with excellent results and feel very confident with the company for quality and reliability. However, after being given some of the Abranet product to trial – I am replacing all my paper and cloth backed disks with this new product. The Abranet comes in grades P 80, P 100, P ...

A New and Improved Miter Saw (circa 1900!)

A New and Improved Miter Saw (circa 1900!)

It being April Fool’s Day, I couldn’t resist reviewing this old dandy! The restaurant I worked at in 1999 was housed in an 1800’s built brick factory building. My Parents say that when they were young it had been a meat packing and processing plant and in the basement there were tracks and hooks for transporting sides of beef and what not. Also in the basement was a corner that was devoted to a small carpenter’s shop and it was there that I found this baby collecting d...

I have to smile with all of the comedians out there….but keep your day jobs….Sorry about no pics, and the skimpy review, but I’ve been really busy getting my boat ready for the upcoming bass tournament season, and the first warm sun makes me run to the river and check lines…..lol I have taken a lot of shop pictures this week, and I just completed a japanese study table made with a tree that I cut down in my backyard last year, so for all of the bandsaw enthusiasts, ...

LOCKTITE POWER GRAB REALLY SUCKED .... * WORST ADHESIVE ON PLANET EARTH*

LOCKTITE POWER GRAB is crap. I glued and clamped six large landscape tiles to a plywood board with Power Grab thinking it would be an improvement over my normal method of Gorilla Glue (sometimes a little messy). NOT I HAVE NEVER in all my years used anything that worked so poorly. REALLY REALLY BAD. Last night I applied 3/4 a tube to fasten my tiles to a plywood backer board. I lightly clamped the tiles with spring clamps and let it setup OVERNIGHT ... (over 20hours). Came home...
