 Incra TS-LS Table saw fence

Incra TS-LS Table saw fence

12-05-2009 03:55 AM by longgone | 12 comments »

I have been reading about the Incra Table Saw fence for a while now and finally decided to bite the bullet (or bite the wallet) and buy one. All that I can say is that this fence lives up to all the expectations I have of it. This gave me the opportunity to do a fine tuning of my Grizzly saw and adjust everything that could possibly be fine tuned before installing the Incra fence system. The setup was easy and fast with the well written instructions. Easy to install and easy to adjust. I spe...

Restoring, Tuning & Using Classic Woodworking tools by Michael Dunbar256 pages.Published in 1989 This is an excellent book that I have had in my library for quite a while. It is currently out of print, so it has become quite expensive on the second hand market. You can find it on Amazon.com or half.com. The book is well written with lots of photographs to illustrate the author’s points. He covers information about why and how to select old tools and then goes in detail in s...

EZ squeeze dust collection hose clamps

EZ squeeze dust collection hose clamps

Why didn’t I think of this? It’s too easy. I have to move my dust hose around a lot, and these work for me. They actually have a pretty good grip, but they won’t make your arms look Popeye. Unpacking and assembly is pretty straightforward, although there are no instructions . At 2 for $6, it’s a good deal. http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/2080307/28347/2-piece-Double-Loop-Squeeze-Hose-Clamp-for-4-Dust-Collection-Hose.aspx

Very nice Magazine

Very nice Magazine

12-04-2009 04:19 PM by David Craig | 8 comments »

A friend of mine recently gifted me with a subscription to Woodsmith Magazine, a publication of August Home Publishing. I have leafed through a number of woodworking type publications over the last couple years (in fact I am a subscriber to Wood Magazine) and have often been left unimpressed with the quality of the material contained within. There are quite a few niceties that this particular publication has that many do not. I will list some of the positives that most impressed me. 1. The...

A Must Have for Afficianatos

A Must Have for Afficianatos

After reading the article (for the fourth time) “A Joiner’s Tool Chest” by Roy Underhill I had toolboxes and tool chests on my mind. So, when I was looking through the tool books at the library last night and happened across this book, I quickly snatched it up and glanced through it. Well, my wife had to remind me that the library hours were closing in and we needed to go because from the start I was engrossed! This is a great book. Especially, if you have any love of ...

Want to make a plane or learn how to use one?

This is a very comprehensive book that shows how to make a Krenov style handplane and a lot more. The book is very clear and easy to read. It provides a lot of information on how planes work, sharpening, handplane use, how to use hand tools in general and also information on plane related accessories such as shooting boards. You have all of the information you need to create a handplane. The instructions are very clear and you should have all of the information you need to create one....

There’s only a few days left (ends Dec. 5th). But, if there’s any Texas Lumberjocks close enough to Kerrville for a day trip, it’s well worth your time. Some awesome work on display! I went yesterday and it has inspired me to continue to strive to raise the level of my work. You can see winner pics on line if you Google the show.

Built Like A Tank

Built Like A Tank

I owned a 5615 fixed base a few years back, but had to sell it to finance my bigger 5625. This is one router that I actually repurchased when I saw it on sale. The 5615-24 is the 8th router I’ve owned (Craftsman 9 amp, Freud FT2000E, Milwaukee 5625, Bosch 1617, Hitachi M12VC, Freud FT1700, and PC690). It’s an extremely well built router. The motor is made in the USA and is very strong for it’s 11 amp rating …plenty strong for most applications. It’s smooth an...

Must Read for the Galoot in all of us

I had been looking to pick this book and while I was at the Sacramento Woodworking show I ordered one from the Lee Valley booth. They had a nice discount on the book and the shipping was free. Chris Schwarz is one of my favorite woodworking authors. He is the editor for Popular Woodworking and Woodworking Magazine. He also has an excellent blog that covers all forms of furnature building, workbench and hand tool topics. He also has produced a number of excellent handplane, tool and ...
