Square Joints with a Hand Plane

Square Joints with a Hand Plane

I’ve had trouble getting perfectly square leg tapers and joints with my hand planes so decide to try out the Veritas Jointer Fence sold by Lee Valley. I was a little leery of it since it is attached to the side of a hand plane by magnets …can magnets really hold or will the fence pop off with every swipe? It comes with a stop that screw that fits into pre-drilled threaded holes in the fence (NO holes or screws into the plane). There are two sets of stop positions in front and...

Best scroll saw I have owned

Best scroll saw I have owned

06-28-2009 06:08 AM by Jamie | 11 comments »

I have worn out a delta and a Dewalt scroll saw in the past ten years and recently aquired this saw. It is the same parallel link design as the dewalt, the only real difference being more of the parts on the dewalt are stamped where on the excalibur they are machined. The table is aluminum and will not rust. This saw runs smooth. I highly recomend this to anyone unless they have a problem with purple tools.

Dewalt Radial Arm Saw

Dewalt Radial Arm Saw

06-27-2009 10:13 PM by Doug | 12 comments »

I got this saw from a local news paper ad, I have had a number of craftsman radial arm saws, didn’t really care for them to much, kinda cheap made !, But now mine were newer saws and i know the old ones were real nice. This one was built in 1960-1962. It wasn’t in the best shape in the world so i dissmantled it and restored it, motor bearings, wires, switches,ETC. Avery nice saw, very acurate !

An oldie but a goodie

An oldie but a goodie

I have always liked radial arm saws. My first power tool purchase was a Craftsman radial arm saw. I only had the one saw and I could do most operations with it – ripping, cross-cutting, mitering; all achievable. The Craftsman (long gone) couldn’t hold a candle to the accuracy of this saw. The arm is cast iron that was aged prior to having the ways machined. The motor was a special built unit that has a flat bottom for extra clearance over the cutting surface. I purchased thi...

I aint fraid of ladders no more

I aint fraid of ladders no more

06-26-2009 12:57 AM by Zuki | 9 comments »

I hate ladders, especially extension ladders. The height does not bother me . . . it’s the sudden stop at the end of a fall that does. When I decided to start our rear deck I became a little apprehensive as it is 11 feet off the ground over the stairwell going into the basement (another 8 ft). But then I found Stand-off arms by LITE. I picked them up at Canadian Tire for $25. There is nothing bad that I can say. The ladder is super stable and offers extra mobility to work agains...

Easy mobile base for contractor saws

Easy mobile base for contractor saws

06-25-2009 06:19 PM by skeeter | 3 comments »

I recently purchased these from my local Richmond VA Woodcraft. The owner saw my perplexion as I perused the mobile base section of the store. He asked what I was kind of equipment I was outfitting and then suggested these. I liked the idea of the equipment using its own legs as support when not in transit. I can’t imagine anything worse than a wobbley machine in use(aka my crappy jointer). I found these fairly easy to install. Two of the holes in the leg lined up although I had to enla...

Jet Wood lathe

Jet Wood lathe

06-25-2009 04:11 AM by RICH GRABLE | 7 comments »

Hi again friends, I have had 2 Performax mini wood lathes. Both of them had some good features, price, variable speed, gaurantee etc. I purchesd the original one from Menard’s in North Platte Ne. I burned out the motor on the first one. They sent another complete lathe, and a few weeks later, I was going to use it and it wouldn’t turn on. They again gave me a new one. Fantastic business to do business with! While I was in need of a lathe, I purched a new JET JWL-1220VS...

Having seen Many of Darrell Pearts fine Greene and Greene inspired most wonderful fine furniture pieces posted on LJ s I thought I would look at his profile and found his great web site were he had his book available so I decided to order one. When I Ordered this book my expectations were low because I’ve purchased artisans books from web site before and received anything from computer printed pages stapled together to what looks like a pamphlet with minimal information. After receiving...

Ridgid R4511 10 in. Granite Top Table Saw

To be fair , I was waiting to write this review after I tackled the last (and only) issue I’ve had with this saw as to give a proper review of it’s operation, and not limited by any aspect of missing/malfunctioning parts out-of-the-box. my ‘limitation’ was that the fence had a slight disposition issue once locked all the way down (was fine if locked half way – it would stay put and stay on the mark – but if the lock handle was pushed further, it would skew ...

50 inch Digital Camera Tripod for $6.99 plus free shipping on eBay

Hey Guys ! Great deal on a tripod for your digital cameras. Very light duty, but holds the camera very still. Below is a camera test slide show … I took 16 photos in a dark room around 10:30 at night. Photos are each at a different combinations of camera settings, alternating between types of flash and focus settings. With the tripod I took 16 photos in a row, without blur. Granted the photos suck, but the tripod held the camera very steady....link to ebay seller...link to an auct...
