Nice Big 6 X 10" Belt/Disc Sander

Nice Big 6 X 10" Belt/Disc Sander

I bought this sander a few weeks ago at Woodcraft (Sacramento) after scouring all the competitors. I do a lot of decorative boxes, and my little Delta 4X6 was just too small for many of my projects. At $350,the Rikon wasn’t exactly cheap, but the other brands were hundreds more. I also looked at Harbor Freight’s model, but the crudeness and lack of any dust collection ruled it out for me.First of all, this puppy weighs in at 104 pounds, so it’s not like the little 4X6 tha...

Robust Sweet 16

Robust Sweet 16

I treated myself to a retirement gift. I could not have made a better choice. I have been using using this for 2 months now. I wanted my review to be based on what I’ve done with it. I looked at everything I could see in person, and read for hours on the web what others have to say about their lathes. I had certain needs that had to be filled, plus I wanted options to grow into as my experience grows. My main concern was getting it into my basement shop. I wanted bigger capacity...

Makita LS1016L 10" Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw w/ Laser

Makita LS1016L 10" Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw w/ Laser

So I just got this miter saw about a month ago and so far the only complaints I have had about it where that I needed to adjust the laser after I first got it. It cuts smoothly and accurately, it slides nicely and it makes cuts up to 13” wide. it’s already saved me lots of time, I hardly need to use my crosscut sled anymore for anything other than plywood and I just can’t say enough good things about this saw!

Excellent planer, but get the extended tables

Excellent planer, but get the extended tables

This is my first planer, so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but it works great. All of the controls are easy to use, two speeds (different # of CPI for dimensioning or finishing). I like the fact that the cutter head is connected to the base with 4 risers instead of two like the DW734 and DW733 as well as the Ridgid and Ryobi planers they carry at Lowes and Home Depot. The depth adjustment is extremely easy to use and once I set it, it hasn’t moved once. The top is e...

Great plate and easy to install

Great plate and easy to install

08-05-2010 04:20 PM by Vrtigo1 | 4 comments »

Let me start by saying that I bought this plate for my first router table, so I don’t have any frame of reference for comparing it to other products. With that being said, I was impressed with the quality of the plate and the cutout template. The price was right, at about $50 from Amazon. I was a little worried about getting a phenolic plate and the possibility of it warping when I hang my Hitachi M12V from it, but the plate feels very strong and stable. Only time will tell, but I...

My Ridig shopvac works better now

My Ridig shopvac works better now

In my use of shopvacs if you get a filter that will trap fine sawdust it stops up quickly. But some how Gore has come up with a way to give me the best of both worlds, longlife and HEPA filter. I have been using the first filter over a year and it still works. I have blown it out a few times. It is not cheap but to me it is worth it.

Believe the Hype...

Believe the Hype...

Ok, I took the plunge, my two previous block planes were annoying me. On the Irwin 60 1/2 low angle, the blade just kept moving no matter what I did,and the adjustable throat was always out of square since I got it. The Stanley 9 1/2 was Ok but the throat is huge and it can tear out even a gentle wave in the grain, also fairly pointless on end grain. I read all sorts of block plane tests online and in magazines, the conclusion seemed to be that the Veritas or Lie Nielsen planes were both v...

Jet 708480K JPS-30 Quality Hybrid Saw for under $800

Jet 708480K JPS-30: 10-Inch ProShop Table saw 1-3/4-Horsepower 30-Inch Rip fence With Steel Wings I have been woodworking for about 2 years now and felt it was time to spend the necessary dough to improve accuracy, cuts, rips, and broaden techniques. I spent a lot of time researching table saws based off cost, features, etc. I decided on this Jet for a handful of reasons: •Cost: $799.00 through Amazon: Amazon allows you to finance certain large ticket items for 12 months same as cash....

Ridgid EB4424 oscillating sander

Ridgid EB4424 oscillating sander

Bought this one based on the reviews a year ago and Im not sorry I did! This is a great sander both. I love the ability to go from a spindle sander to the belt. Even came with plenty of diff. spindle sizes. The dust collection has been great, and it’s so quiet. This is a huge time saver on projects. At $200.00 this is a must have for the shop.
