This saw is discontinued now, replaced by a new model but some stores around me still have a few left on their shelves. I picked mine up for about $360.00, that price for a Bosch slider is pretty good in my books. As with any other miter saw out there dust collection sucks but that is to be expected I guess. It came with a 60 tooth blade that worked great but after its life was up I replaced it with a Freud. The only real problem that this one has is that it is very hard to pull down when you...

Rust Remover & Preserver for South Africans

Rust Remover & Preserver for South Africans

1742 days ago by PG_Zac | 1 comment »

I can’t speak for it’s wood finishing / polishing properties, but MAN it’s fantastic for removing rust !!!.Here in a very rural area in South Africa, I have no easy access to large stores of any kind, let alone a specialist woodworking store. I’ve never seen Boeshield or the other products many LJ’s use for protecting their machines, I doubt that they are even in the major centers in S.A. I had a problem with rain on my Bandsaw – here is the upper guide...

Grizzly G1014Z Modifications

Grizzly G1014Z Modifications

Well, I took the time to modify two things on my new G1014Z sander. First I removed the switch assembly and simply turned it around. I put the switch in front and the wires in back. This makes it much easier to access the switch. Second, I moved the backstop furthur back closer to the disc roller above the platen. You can see where I drilled and tapped for the mounting bolt. I was amazed the mounting bolt was actually a common 5/16 thread. This modification let me pick up another 3” of ...

Great Product (after you modify them)

Great Product (after you modify them)

1742 days ago by SteveMI | 3 comments »

I got a used TS couple monts ago that was an upgrade to me. It has the standard 3/4” miter slots in the cast iron table unlike my prior aluminum. So, while browsing the local Woodcraft for feather boards I saw the JessEm and thought to give them a try. Today I had a chance to actually use them and found they are a great product, but are having some manufacturing problems. The key to the design are some rectangle head bolts that slide in slots molded in the plastic feather boards a...

Veritas camber roller attachement makes putting a camber on a blade a breeze.

Veritas camber roller attachement makes putting a camber on a blade a breeze.

After years of using an ROS to sand and smooth all my projects I finally said enough and started collecting good user planes over the last couple of years. I had played some with a #5 jack plane but had left my #4 smoother unattended other than to derust it. I pulled it out today, took the blade out and got out my Veritas honing guide. I had purchased a camber roller attachment for it last year and hadn’t tried it out yet. I don’t know what took me so long. It made putting a cambe...

Lee Valley's Variable Round Over Bit

Lee Valley's Variable Round Over Bit

1743 days ago by handi | 0 comments »

I got to try out Lee Valley’s new Variable Roundover bit. This bit has two parts that can be spaced apart with the included shims to round over the top and bottom of stock from .79” to 1” thick. It does take a bit of checking to assure that the bit is set to the proper width. Since the cutting tips are offset, it is difficult to exactly measure the setting. Make some extra stock and do test cuts. This bit was designed to make tool handles using templates and Lee Valley...

Got me a new DJ-20 to replace my 6” Ridgid. To me it’s a small aircraft carrier.I’ve not had much luck with Delta tools the last few years but decided to go with a Delta again over a General and King.Out of the 2 crates the tables were flat and in line with each other and the fence was perfect.Paint job isn’t the greatest but if the above points are perfect it’s a fabs item. If I could I’d give it 4.5 starsGreat price too at $1499 Cdn -PLUS I get to choose...

Powermatic PM1800 18" Bandsaw

Powermatic PM1800 18" Bandsaw

1745 days ago by RobWoodCutter | 10 comments »

Apoligies for the long post but here goes. History: About a 1-1/2 year ago I picked up a Steel City 18” bandsaw from the local Woodcraft and about a year ago also picked up a Powermatic 14” bandsaw. The intent was to use the SC as a resaw machine and the PM for the balance of the tasks. Have been happy with both of them. I had been stocking up on rough saw boards, many wider than the SC could resaw. So I started looking around and reading everything I could find on the web o...

Special Finishing Techniques DVD

Do you like quirky? (I DO!!!) Do you like unpretentious honesty? (I DO!!!) Do you like to get interesting and rock-solid insights into how an expert does his finishing? (I DO!!!) I got this DVD for a recent birthday. I put Charles Neil DVDs on my wishlist and actually got one. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it and learned a LOT. For example, I never really knew much about grain filling techniques… and now I am looking at remnants of red oak wanting to give it a shot. When m...

Making Mechanical Marvels in Wood by Raymond Levy

Making Mechanical Marvels in Wood by Raymond Levy

1747 days ago by Sivers | 8 comments »

I thought this book was really neat. I love mechanical “things”. All the models in this are meant to be demonstrative of basic mechanical devices that make up the larger machines that are all around us. Cam Follower, Couplings, Scotch Yoke etc…. I am hoping my finished models will be “desk worthy” as I am an engineer and the others in my office would get a kick out of this. I have built a simple one and am partially through one of the more challenging ones. Th...
