None slider 5 star

After a few disasters with sub $200 sliders and a dual rail miter sled, I decided to grab one of these none sliders. And @ $120, this made it impossible to resist for too long.I blew the sales they had on Amazon and also the sales they had on-line at sears but got lucky in store deal. So I grabbed it. Any way, right out of box the accuracy was an impressive within 0.1 in all aspects. Not bad at all but not good enough for a calibration fanatic like myself. So after an hour or so of tweaks, ...

First off, I’d like to say a few things to give you a bit of context around my review. This is the first drill press I have ever owned. I have used some before in the past, being from a farm my dad always had all kinds of tools in the shop, and a Drill Press was definitely one of those tools. As a child all the tools intimidated me, seeing all of the belts hanging on the walls, the torch scraps on the floor, etc. Now that I am all grown up and have kids of my own, its very interes...

Triton Upgrades Their Above Table Micro-Adjuster Worm Gear

Triton Upgrades Their Above Table Micro-Adjuster Worm Gear

03-08-2011 02:42 AM by HorizontalMike | 25 comments »

I have had my Triton 3 1/4hp router since last June 2010 and did not get to use it much until the last couple of months. I mounted this router on my TS extension and drilled the appropriate hole in the cast iron router extension and was good to go. The lifting mechanism worked well at first and then began to slip and eventually failed to lift, though adjustments could still be made when lowering via the above-table micro-adjuster. I called HTC-Triton (HTC are the new owners) in Michigan ...

One Sweet Saw

One Sweet Saw

Cuts very clean. The 90 degree stops were perfectly square right out of the box so no adjustment needed. With a dust collector attached it’s got excellent dust control. It glides so smooth you can just about operate it with a couple fingers. My only gripe is that it did not come with a laser guide. Even my $90 Makita P.O.S. came with one. For an $800 saw to not have one is mind boggling. I was so annoyed by that I almost gave it 4 stars.

Kelton ER Collet Handles

Kelton ER Collet Handles

03-07-2011 02:36 AM by Barbara Gill | 2 comments »

I have not bought any new woodturning tools in over a year. After hearing about the Kelton ER collet handles I decided they would be just the system I needed. Today I have been using them and they are even better than I had been told. Not only are the handles very easy on the hands, including not being cold to the touch but they also have helped me solve several problems. One of those problems was space; I simply had more tools than room. I have removed the wood handles from all of the mos...

Something to avoid

Something to avoid

Prefix: I should say that I’m not a very experienced woodworker, so I’m not comparing this machine with anything else – I have no idea whether this table saw is better, or worse, than a Griz X, or a Bear Y. ————————————————————————————————————- A couple of ...

my review of the new unisaw

my review of the new unisaw

03-06-2011 04:27 AM by sawdustphill | 7 comments »

Extes- express delivered my new 3hp unisaw on march first. It came in five boxes. when I opened the bigbox I noticed I didn’t get the black folder they advertise my manuals were in a plastic bag, I don’t know whatsup with that And the wrench did not have the soft grip on it, I think delta is trying to cheapen up. But on a posative note the drawer was metal with full extension drawer slides, not the cheap mdf I saw on the one they had at woodcraft in Lexington, Ky. The throat open...

LOCKJAW 7CCS Self-Adjusting Locking Clamp

LOCKJAW 7CCS Self-Adjusting Locking Clamp

03-05-2011 06:29 PM by Don Johnson | 6 comments »

Whilst viewing LJ’s Project page, some clamps popped up in the advertisement sidebar, so I decided to investigate. The blurb for the set of four clamps read as follows: Offering much more than the traditional variety, this set of four LockJaw self-adjusting locking clamps are perfect for getting the job done. Versatile and easy to use, the clamps are great for any number of jobs, and the patented LockJaw locking mechanism means the jaws open and adjust automatically to any size obje...

Not the router lift to buy

Not the router lift to buy

03-05-2011 09:32 PM by misbeshavings | 10 comments »

I bought a Jointech router lift 2 years ago based on ratings I found in magazines – it was a “tool of the year” award winner. Within a year, the Wixey digital indicator quit zeroing. So much for the digital advantage. This year, the lift quit lifting. It was never really “smooth”, and I finally stripped the gears off of the incredibly poor engineered nylon gear that engages a large ring gear to accomplish the lift. Insult to injury, when I ordered a rep...
