A great little compressor at a very reasonable cost

A great little compressor at a very reasonable cost

For the past ten years I’ve been using a Harbor Freight, 21 gal. compressor and it’s served me well. In fact, I really didn’t take care of it and surprisingly it lasted as long as it did. I believe the original oil was in it. (yikes!) Of course, when I started my little business I started using the compressor on a regular basis and it started showing signs of failure. Blowing the breaker at startup, running slow and eventually not starting at all. I figured it was ti...

California Air Tools model 1610A Ultra Quiet & Oil Free Air Compressor

California Air Tools model 1610A Ultra Quiet & Oil Free Air Compressor

I just received the long awaited air compressor I bought off Amazon. It arrived in perfect condition by UPS as I was eating dinner. After reading the manual, I plugged it in and flipped the ON switch. I couldn’t believe how quiet this compressor was. Four rubber feet kept it anchored to the floor with no vibration. It uses a two cylinder pump driven off an induction motor. It is oil free and has an aluminum tank. At 35 pounds, even a 79 year old can lug this around without much effort. ...

Great Compressor, Lousy Packing Job, Yay Amazon

Great Compressor, Lousy Packing Job, Yay Amazon

For those that have never experienced an ultra-quiet compressor, it’s really hard to overstate how much quieter they are than your average machine. The California Air Tools 2010A I have sounds like an average dishwasher from about 5-8 feet away. In other words, you know it’s on but it does not overwhelm you with noise. Other compressors I have used (Porter Cable pancake, Harbor Freight pancake & a larger HF wheeled model) are so insanely loud by comparison that I would neve...

What is wrong with Bostitch?

What is wrong with Bostitch?

07-31-2009 04:36 AM by sboyle | 33 comments »

I bought a compressor not too long ago. It ran good for a while and now the pressure doesn’t build up. From what I read it is the valve assembly. I don’t know if I should replace it or just buy another brand. I thought Bostitch made good tools but this just changed my opinion. I read that one person actually replaced it 3 times. Am I wasting my time with this one? Should I toss it and buy another brand? Any opinions would be appreciated. I think I will be staying away from Bostitc...

Couldnt be more dissapointed in my bostich compressor

Couldnt be more dissapointed in my bostich compressor

I bought this compressor thinking it was a good deal, I used, and a it a few times to blow up a car tire, then for a roof and a few pieces of trim work. Then the regulator (thing that controls outlet pressure) control stripped out. I beleive its because it is cheap and it cant handle the pressure in the tank being on it over time. and no i didnt leave the tank with pressure in it all the time. A quick fix to get you by if you cant for a new part or like in my case it gets stripped out, is to...

Nice compressor for small jobs.

Nice compressor for small jobs.

I got this compressor to carry around the shop or the house for small nailing jobs. It does really well at that, but not as good as some of the new things that have come out since. It has a 2-gallon capacity which allows you to drive a good number of brads before refilling. There is an adjustable pressure regulator and a quick connect valve. A nice feature is the little storage box on-board for small small accessories and the handle on the top. I tried carrying a lot of the small compre...

Good compressor for nailing work

Good compressor for nailing work

I have had this oil-free compressor for several years and have used it in conjunction with my Ridgid and Campbell-Hausfeld framing nailers to add timbering to my attic trusses, build a fancy coffered ceiling in my garage, and add additional nails to the siding on my house. I have also used it to power finishing and brad nailers for assorted projects. The thing works just fine. The calibration is perfect and I appreciate not having to worry about oil in the compressor section. It weighs 70 ...

Makita MAC2400 Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor

Makita MAC2400 Oiled Twin Hot Dog Compressor

My lovely wife posted this tool review in one of my blogs by mistake. I wasn’t about to complain about it at that time. One thing I have learned over the years is, if MaMa does something nice for you, Never complain! Now that it has been awhile I thought I should post it in the tool review section. After doing a lot of reserch and looking at different compressors, I settled on this Makita. It is by far the most unbelievably quit compressor I have ever heard. Because my shop is small,...

I'm Loving It Already

I'm Loving It Already

I have to give two thumbs up to the Makita MAC2400. Just received today after selling off my old Campbell Hausfield 4HP 13 Gallon tank. My god that thing was loud! The Makita purrs like a kitten. After breaking it in, I ran it through a couple cycles. Recovers extremely fast and its such a pleasure to not be sent fleeing from the general area because of the noise. I know I have not taken it through its paces but I expect a long service life, consistent with a Makita. It is a little hea...
