For those of you who read my last review of the Pony Rapid Acting Band Clamp you’d probably be thinking I was going to be much more skeptical this time around with the same brand, but lo’ for this one I’d call it a winner. Please note in the photo the clips are backwards, but that’s okay because you do that for smaller frames, although given the position of where the clips are I’d say they’re making a huge frame, haha. As with any other frame clamps setu...

My quick grip clamps are now gathering dust

My quick grip clamps are now gathering dust

Well, maybe my quick grip clamps are not gathering dust, but they are definitely not getting used near as much after purchase a few of these. I bought 3 of the 40” versions to supplement other clamps on a very large glue. They quickly became my go to clamps. Unlike my other bessey parallel clamps, these have a nice large rubber handle that make it easy to really twist and lock down on a piece. I’ve yet to have any issues with flexing with them either, but most of the work I ...

I was so excited to try making a picture frame for an old mirror I etched a long time ago… until I got this disaster of a clamp. Pros: Nylon band is an easy to see day-glow orange. Solid easy to grip handle Quick release tabs on either side makes it easy to size the band accordingly Really long band – like 15’ long. A bit large for a 12×12 picture frame, but I’m sure for an odd shaped item it would come in handy. Cons: Has a little notch (for la...

Extremely Useful Addition To My Bench

Extremely Useful Addition To My Bench

I purchased a set a few months ago, so I figured I’d post a quick review. Hope it helps others decide if these are for them. Initially, I honestly thought I wouldn’t like these. My first impression was that they seemed cool in a gadgety sort of way, but that they might be one of those things that fixes a problem that doesn’t exist. Boy was I wrong! The little plates that go under the holes are really easy to install and readily flip out of the way when needed. The fit of these...

Irwin Passive Lock Bar Clamp

Irwin Passive Lock Bar Clamp

02-04-2013 12:00 AM by Purrmaster | 6 comments »

I picked this up at Home Depot a couple of months ago. I hadn’t seen a passive lock clamp before but it was beefy and I wanted something strong. It was designated as a “heavy duty” clamp. This thing is great. It really is heavy duty. The steel bar is the thickest I’ve seen on a bar clamp and hand screw is beefy too. I’ve put a ridiculous amount of clamping pressure onto this thing. The bars on all my other bar clamps have deformed because of excessive ...

A clamp like no other.

A clamp like no other.

It is a very old saw that one cannot have too many regular clamps. At work for instance I run about 40 of the Jorgensen 3700 series and still wish I had more at times. Yet it is the specialty clamps that we have that sometimes get you out of a jamb or simply make life a whole lot easier. To that end I have spring clamps, band clamps, little tiny C-clamps and a host of others that step up only when that seems the way to work. I’m sure you all have them too. One of my specialty tool...

Another knock off success from Harbor Freight

Another knock off success from Harbor Freight

I realize that there may be many out there that dislike Harbor Freight, but when it comes to occasional use/accuracy not an issue tools, they are a viable, and cheap, alternative. While their tools tend to be pass or fail, these clamps are another pass. After seeing Askwoodman use the Festool and Bessy clamps, I knew I wanted some. However, at $40 each I couldn’t make myself hit the add to cart button, settling for continuing to use my traditional f clamps that I have always used. ...

Craftsman Bar clamps

Craftsman Bar clamps

12-29-2012 08:18 AM by Bob Kollman | 1 comment »

I have been using the craftsman bar clamps for several years now. I have about 16 of the 24” clamps, 4 of the 36” clamps and 4 18” clamps. They all have worked with out fail. Over the years these clamps have been subject to above average abuse, I use them frequently and do not clean them as I should. They are study as I have dropped them a lot…and the best thing to note is there plastic handles…yes plastic, they are over sized and easy to grip and easy to ove...

Bessey Band clamp

Bessey Band clamp

12-26-2012 02:07 AM by AJswoodshop | 7 comments »

When you making 45 degree miters you can’t clamp it together using regular clamps. This is when a Band Clamp comes in handy. This bessey band clamp will allow you to clamp together 45 degree miters and keep the entire frame perfectly square. The corner clamp get hooked on to a belt, which clamps the frame together. When you need it, it’s the only thing that will do the job!
