Vacuum Clamp System ( Lee Valley )

Vacuum Clamp System ( Lee Valley )

221 days ago by JerryS | 1 comment »

I’ve been looking for an easy way to hold parts for sanding and spotted the V Clamp made by Vac Clamps . Lee Vallery carries the product . So with the recent free shipping I ordered the double sided clamp system along with the on and off switch . Setting it up is pretty easy , you’ll need at least a small compressor to run it . I did a video and tried to show how well it holds things , but its hard to tell . There’s no trickery I really tired to pull the bond off but can&#...

Project V2 Venturi Vacuum Press Kit

Project V2 Venturi Vacuum Press Kit

I couldn’t decide if this should be a project or a review. Technically, it’s both, I guess. The project – a vacuum press – is based on the V2 Venturi vacuum press kit (i.e. you need an air compressor) from http://www.joewoodworker.com. The Project Kit I bought the kit a while ago. Well . . . a few years ago. OK, it was 2006! I wanted to let it age before I put it together. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it! The build is really simple...

A barely viable alternative to the Bora, but most are duds

A barely viable alternative to the Bora, but most are duds

After I fitting my power tool collection with both a circular saw and router, I wanted to add a few easy to clamp edge guides to my tool collection. After playing with a variety of different edge guides in the market (Bora, Emerson, Woodriver), I settled on the Bora as the one that felt the best, given the long handle. All reviews about clamp edge tools I read highlighted the aluminum bar’s had a tendency to flex midway through a cut operation, making me think the wide track model was...

The Go-to standard for Pipe Clamps

The Go-to standard for Pipe Clamps

249 days ago by paxorion | 10 comments »

After discovering the inadequacies of F-style clamps in the greater than 12” range (too much flex), I decided it was time to begin my pipe clamp collection. Binge watching episodes of New Yankee Workshop must have done a number on my perspective of pipe clamps, as the only one I thought would fit the bill was “Pony Orange”. Thankfully, my cheapskate tendencies kicked in and made me look for alternatives, making the HF 3/4 Pipe Clamp Fixture the first of my pipe clamp collection....

A great alternative to the Jorgensen Pony, worth all $8 I spent for each fixture

A great alternative to the Jorgensen Pony, worth all $8 I spent for each fixture

The HF 3/4” Pipe Clamp with Base fixture is probably the only of my many HF acquisitions that has never given me a problem. After discovering the inadequacies of F-style clamps in the greater than 12” range (too much flex), I took the road traveled by many a woodworker before me and began looking to pipe clamps. I began pricing out Jorgensen Pony pipe clamp fixtures and found them to be a bit more expensive than I had anticipated, so I took a chance and bought 1 fixture from HF ...

The Harbor Freight way of jump starting your clamp collection

The Harbor Freight way of jump starting your clamp collection

253 days ago by paxorion | 45 comments »

When I first began dabbling in woodworking, I had zero clamps and high aspirations. Stocking up on the well F-style Harbor Freight clamps seemed like a good idea. For months, I impulsively made trips to HF and picked up one HF F-style bar clamp (using a 20% off coupon) and 1 freebie per trip. Fast forward 2 years, and I now have 10×6”, 6×12”, 2×18” and 2×24”. Overall impression is that the HF F-style clamp was the most inexpensive way of jump st...

Panel clamps, perfect for cutting boards

Panel clamps, perfect for cutting boards

263 days ago by CalgaryGeoff | 28 comments »

I’ve been building end grain cutting boards for years and using pipe clamps and glue up jigs. Usually very messy and a slight bow developed during glue ups. Well, a fellow LJ member and I have been thinking there has to be a better way. Recently he sent me a link to check out some new clamps, wow, it looks like the perfect solution to cutting board glue up. Here’s a link to a 50 second YouTube video showing an animation of them in action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SYR957Y...

You may never need these...

You may never need these...

But when there’s a need for ultra deep jaw clamps 12 inches nothing else will work. So, I put off buying these for a long time and sure enough I have a job at hand that needs these. @ 10 a piece you cant beat the price and quality.you could take the pin out and replace it with a handle but I see no need to that.

Great Clamps, Thank you Bessey!

Great Clamps, Thank you Bessey!

345 days ago by The Box Whisperer | 1 comment »

After applying online to be a product tester, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a response from a Bessey employee. Apparently I had made the “cut” and they wanted me to review their clamps. I was thrilled, as every good woodworker out there has said, you can never have enough clamps. The interactions with the employee were very friendly, and I was asked which products among the auto adjust toggle clamps I would like to try. I picked out 8 clamps and waited like a kid at Chris...

Quick Release Clamps: Jorgensen vs. Harbor Freight

Quick Release Clamps: Jorgensen vs. Harbor Freight

360 days ago by SirFatty | 44 comments »

I recently purchased some Harbor Freight clamps that are still on sale, “12 clamps, “18 clamps and “36 clamps (the picture shows the 36” as yellow, but they are blue in the store). Decided to go with these because, quite honestly, they look almost exactly like Jorgensen clamps. The main difference, besides the cost, is the plastic/rubberized grip versus the Jorgensen’s hardwood. Although the castings are a bit rough, there’s no doubt where the Harbor F...
