Grab them while you can! Great deal on import ratchet clamps!

I received an email flyer a week or so ago stating there was a box of ratchet clamps in limited quantities for $39.00 at Lee Valley. Yesterday I stopped by the store and bought a box of them. While waiting for the clerk to bring them out so I could see the product, I looked at a Pony ratchet clamp on display and was amazed that the clamps in the box he brought were almost identical. The only difference is the ratcheting mechanism, the import brand has a notched metal bar that keeps t...

A barely viable alternative to the Bora, but most are duds

A barely viable alternative to the Bora, but most are duds

After I fitting my power tool collection with both a circular saw and router, I wanted to add a few easy to clamp edge guides to my tool collection. After playing with a variety of different edge guides in the market (Bora, Emerson, Woodriver), I settled on the Bora as the one that felt the best, given the long handle. All reviews about clamp edge tools I read highlighted the aluminum bar’s had a tendency to flex midway through a cut operation, making me think the wide track model was...

One and Done!

One and Done!

I bought these bench hold fasts from Rockler. One moderate tap with my mallet and it broke. I had another one, same issue. Extremely poor quality and not worth a cent. I expect better from Rockler than this PoS. I think the Taiwan stamp says it all.

K-body clamp extenders

K-body clamp extenders

2115 days ago by dsb1829 | 7 comments »

I picked up a set of the K-body clamp extenders a couple months back from Woodcraft. I had a table project coming up and knew that clamping the long aprons would require clamps in excess of the 50 inchers that I had. I was initially impressed by the solid construction of these. Honestly I think you would get back near half of the price in scrap value on the billet. The bolts are massive. The extrusion is formed to match the contours of the steel rails of the K-body clamps. Well last n...

pics show just one example of using this product. I made this ad-hoc tapering jig for a project today in about 4 minutes, the rockler hold downs are great! as you can see i used one rockler and one cheap chinese knockoff hold down – big difference! the cheapo flexes and has a plastic insert that’s always getting sideways i will break this jig down now that i’m done cutting tapers for today (see pic below) and put the track and hold downs back into the clear plastic tube t...

A great clamp for the price

A great clamp for the price

I purchased a set of these bar clamps several years ago. They were inexpensive and have worked very well. I was first introduced to them when taking a class at the CT Valley School of Woodworking. They were all still functional in the school, and I’m sure they get plenty of abuse in the school. They currently list for approximately $25/each for a 48” clamp and offer them in many lengths. The bar clamps are made from extruded aluminum, are reasonably light and give a good am...

Price $6.5011 page detailed plans showing how to build and use this corner clampweb page – www.Euro32products.comCost of a single clamp – approx. $8.00 (if you use a hex nut instead of the cam lever cost is approx. $3.00) I found the plans to be very well written / drawn. Simple construction with no complicated joinery. The result is a clamp that is very well made and does what it claims. As designed it will work with 3/4” stock. It can work with different width stock wit...

http://www.harborfreight.com/500-lb-horizontal-toggle-clamp-96233.html Hard to beat for the money, I just bought two and am very very happy with them. Very substantial and very high quality. For $5.49 as opposed to Rockler’s > $20.00 price, they’re hard to beat.

A Paean to an American Classic

A Paean to an American Classic

Good everyday tools make everything better. . I have an abundance of Jorgensen 3700 clamps on hand, today I bought some more. I’ve been happily using these same American clamps for decades and I’ve really no idea whether the people involved are being paid well or not, but to this day the quality remains outstanding.. . It does seem there are companies that make a cheaper, poorer copy of this design but I would say to them and you – why bother? Many of my clamps h...

Excellent Clamps

Excellent Clamps

615 days ago by NiteWalker | 6 comments »

For a long time I’ve been looking for a good 12” clamp for my boxes I build. I’ve been through a few before I tried the Bessey Tradesman clamps, and I wish I had sooner. I tried the regular duty jorgensen 3700 series clamps. Those were ok, but you had to pay extra for clamp pads. But the dealbreaker for me was that the bars flex way too much for a 12” clamp. I also tried the heavy duty jorgensen 3700-HD series clamps. Those are great and have no bar flex at 12”...
