Not for use with new K-body clamps, but sturdy and well built

Note: Based on the quality of the build of this product and comments from another user, John Ormsby, who does use them, I’m giving this product four stars, up from the original two. (John would give them five). But I wanted to warn anyone who might buy them unknowingly that they do not work with the new Kbody clamps. (Kbody Revo). Even if you have the new Kbody Revo Vario parallel clamps, this has nothing to do with the VarioPivot clamps. I’m deleting the original post for...

StrongHold Clamps

StrongHold Clamps

I accidentally posted this review under the blog section, and thought I better correct it. I was looking for a clamp that could hold a glue up of two 45 deg strips of wood to make a block. Basically two triangles glued together to make a square. All the woodworking site searches produced nothing. Then I came across these clamps on a welding website. http://www.stronghandtools.com/products/pdt_img/pgv_pic.html I ordered three of them from my local welding supply store to see how t...

Harbor Freight = an exercise in readjusting your expectations ... it is what it is.

I go back some 16 years with Harbor Freight Tools…. And while I don’t often buy from them, I was reminded today that I have to readjust my expectations to reflect their low price point… As a company, I have to say that Harbor Freight has always resolved any issues I’ve had with their products, it wasn’t always a speedy solution, but in the end they made it right. So given the recent positive review about their ‘F’ style bar clamps…. and me...

Worst tool I have ever owned

Worst tool I have ever owned

I bought two of these bar clamps for $8.99 ea at a Harbor Freight store. On one of them the tab on the movable jaw rounded over after a few uses to the point where it would not engage the slots in the bar. The casting on the fixed jaw of the other clamp broke under moderate pressure.I bought them because i liked the design, the length is adjustable. i wrote to Harbor Freight and they offered to send replacements if I returned the broken clamps, they would pay postage. i had already tossed ...

The classic K-Body formula lives on at an affordable price

The classic K-Body formula lives on at an affordable price

DISCLAIMER: The first part of the review is a first impression/use review. Please see my update below. I dare say that all woodworkers droll over building a wall full of clamps, and many of them probably wish they could stock it full of parallel clamps. However barring the rare blow-out sale, most of us aren’t able to afford the high cost of parallel clamps. I got into woodworking long after the Woodcraft and Harbor Freight stopped carrying their K Body clones, so the hopes of thi...

A barely viable alternative to the Bora, but most are duds

A barely viable alternative to the Bora, but most are duds

After I fitting my power tool collection with both a circular saw and router, I wanted to add a few easy to clamp edge guides to my tool collection. After playing with a variety of different edge guides in the market (Bora, Emerson, Woodriver), I settled on the Bora as the one that felt the best, given the long handle. All reviews about clamp edge tools I read highlighted the aluminum bar’s had a tendency to flex midway through a cut operation, making me think the wide track model was...

LOCKJAW 7CCS Self-Adjusting Locking Clamp

LOCKJAW 7CCS Self-Adjusting Locking Clamp

03-05-2011 06:29 PM by Don Johnson | 6 comments »

Whilst viewing LJ’s Project page, some clamps popped up in the advertisement sidebar, so I decided to investigate. The blurb for the set of four clamps read as follows: Offering much more than the traditional variety, this set of four LockJaw self-adjusting locking clamps are perfect for getting the job done. Versatile and easy to use, the clamps are great for any number of jobs, and the patented LockJaw locking mechanism means the jaws open and adjust automatically to any size obje...

Another Veritas winner - Mounting plates for use with Bessey Clamps on Festool MFT

Another Veritas winner - Mounting plates for use with Bessey Clamps on Festool MFT

As I was leaving the Lee Valley store late this last week, I glanced over at the Festool display and noticed the Bessey Self Adjusting clamps sitting on the MFT table. Having not previously seen them and used to the De-Sta-Co models for jigs in my shop, I stopped to examine the quality and then noticed the Veritas plate for use with the Festool MFT or other 20mm holes in a bench. Very simply, it is a black aluminum anodized plate with a threaded post inserted (could it be switched out t...

Wolfcraft 3681404 One-Handed Ratcheting Band Clamp

Wolfcraft 3681404 One-Handed Ratcheting Band Clamp

07-24-2013 03:30 PM by OakHill | 3 comments »

The Wolfcraft Ratcheting Band Clamp has become the ‘go-to’ clamp in this shop when doing final glue up on projects requiring ‘all-around’ clamping. With one hand on the clamp handles, the other hand is free to adjust the strap, align the pieces being glued or positioning of corner blocks and strap guide as seen in the photo. By depressing the release button and guiding the strap with one finger you can slowly draw in the strap until the parts are in alignment and the fit is to your sati...
