A great clamp for what it is meant for - One-handed clamping

A great clamp for what it is meant for - One-handed clamping

Way back when (after home ownership but before my woodworking hobby), I thought that these beefy Irwin Quick-Grip XP600 were the most awesome clamps. After all, why would I want a heavy clamp (i.e. the parallel clamps a few inches away at the big box store) where I’d have to use 2 hands? Fast forward a few years, and I now have a more realistic perspective of these clamps. Recently, I splurged and picked up 8 of the 12” model from my local Home Depot. My decision was prompte...

The classic K-Body formula lives on at an affordable price

The classic K-Body formula lives on at an affordable price

DISCLAIMER: The first part of the review is a first impression/use review. Please see my update below. I dare say that all woodworkers droll over building a wall full of clamps, and many of them probably wish they could stock it full of parallel clamps. However barring the rare blow-out sale, most of us aren’t able to afford the high cost of parallel clamps. I got into woodworking long after the Woodcraft and Harbor Freight stopped carrying their K Body clones, so the hopes of thi...

Worth every dollar I paid for them

Worth every dollar I paid for them

64 days ago by paxorion | 14 comments »

OK, so my title might be a bit misleading. As a hobbyist, I don’t think I would be able to justify spending that healthy chunk of change on clamps if I paid the full retail price. Like many others, when the JET parallel clamps went on sale for 50% off during Black Friday 2013, I pulled the trigger to buy some, and I picked up the framing set (2×24” and 2×40” with the clamp blocks and bench-dog pins). Since I started using the JET parallel clamps, I’ve defi...

Almost a really good clamp

Almost a really good clamp

64 days ago by mramseyISU | 4 comments »

I recieved these clamps as part of a Mini Clamp-It set with two of the assembly squares which work really well and 4 of these clamps. I’ve had them for a little over a year and up until recently I really liked them. About a month back I was using them and as I tightened them down I noticed that the threads on the clamp were all bottomed out but they weren’t tight. That was funny I thought and then I noticed that the head was coming off of all of them. The flaw on these clamps is t...

Euro 32 Corner Clamp (plans only - shop made)

Euro 32 Corner Clamp (plans only - shop made)

Price $6.5011 page detailed plans showing how to build and use this corner clampweb page – www.Euro32products.comCost of a single clamp – approx. $8.00 (if you use a hex nut instead of the cam lever cost is approx. $3.00) I found the plans to be very well written / drawn. Simple construction with no complicated joinery. The result is a clamp that is very well made and does what it claims. As designed it will work with 3/4” stock. It can work with different width stock wit...

Not for use with new K-body clamps, but sturdy and well built

Not for use with new K-body clamps, but sturdy and well built

99 days ago by GoBlu | 28 comments »

Note: Based on the quality of the build of this product and comments from another user, John Ormsby, who does use them, I’m giving this product four stars, up from the original two. (John would give them five). But I wanted to warn anyone who might buy them unknowingly that they do not work with the new Kbody clamps. (Kbody Revo). Even if you have the new Kbody Revo Vario parallel clamps, this has nothing to do with the VarioPivot clamps. I’m deleting the original post for...

http://www.harborfreight.com/500-lb-horizontal-toggle-clamp-96233.html Hard to beat for the money, I just bought two and am very very happy with them. Very substantial and very high quality. For $5.49 as opposed to Rockler’s > $20.00 price, they’re hard to beat.

Worth Every Penney

Worth Every Penney

If your like me you have had screw down holdfasts that don’t hold fast at all. A hold fast that doesn’t hold the work firmly is IMO dangerous not only to your work but to your hands as well. Having had some real loser holdfasts over the years that let the work skitter around I always dreamt of a good screw down holdfast that would actually work. So when I came across the Sjoberg Scandi it really caught my attention. The Scandi looked like a winner – heavy solid steel r...

Bessey H Style pipe clamp

Bessey H Style pipe clamp

143 days ago by HarveyM | 14 comments »

I’ve have a recent disappointing experience with Bessey pipe clamps; of the four bought one had a slipping clutch and two others had skewed threading in the head casting. Those two had jaws that wouldn’t align with the feet flat on the table. That’s aside from casting flaws & voids. They came in cardboard boxes, rather than the clear plastic packaging, but from a reputable dealer. I replaced them with Pony 50’s for slightly higher price, but Ponys are head and shoulders above ...

HF Aluminum bar clamp

HF Aluminum bar clamp

184 days ago by gamygeezer | 27 comments »

Heat wave yesterday! All the way up to 57F! So I decided to go shopping. I rinsed off the sawdust, trimmed the ear hair, unclogged the sink and cranked up the old DRam. I went to Harbor Freight to check on the locking casters reviewed recently, but really had to browse the whole store. I found a rack of aluminum bar clamps almost exactly like the ones I really like from Jorgensen. Had to get one (or so) of course. I picked the “36 inch”, a handy size, which actually has o...
