Fast, Light, Durable Framing Saw

Fast, Light, Durable Framing Saw

2 years ago, I built a new 2nd floor deck with ‘picture framed’ outside deck boards, which requires cutting a number of 45-degree miters. I got frustrated with my old circular saw, so off to the big box I went. I came home with a Ridgid Fuego Compact Framing Saw, and couldn’t be happier. This saw is light-weight (only weighs 8 pounds), and tough … the shoe is composite, and the guard is magnesium. The depth and bevel settings are easy and accurate, and the sho...

Makita 5007MG

Makita 5007MG

Some of you might remember that my nearly 30 year old Craftsman circular saw smoked during the beginning of building my wife’s garden shed. I was looking at a couple different saws, but based mostly on the recommendations of several LJ’ers who probably are more up to speed on such things, I spent the little extra to get the Makita 5007MG. I have to say that this was probably one of the best out=of-the-box products I’ve purchased. It has adjustments to get it aligned, but aft...

Great saw for the price

Great saw for the price

I was looking for a new saw to replace my old Skil model and found this nice Milwaukee for $99.00. I have had it about a week and am pretty impressed. I was actually toying with the Ridgid brand, but opted on this one instead. This is a saw with no laser, or electric brake, but I personally didn’t miss them. Nice and powerful motor at 15amps so I haven’t experienced any binding under extreme use yet. Does have a interesting adjustable handle that you can position high or low de...

Great saw for the money, even a better package

Great saw for the money, even a better package

I’ve been looking at cordless circular saws for some time now, because I want one to take with me to lumberyards to break down long boards so they fit into my small station wagon.Walking into Lowes three weeks ago looking for an unrelated item, I stumbled upon a Porter Cable combo-package of 4 tools, two Ni-cd batteries and a charger for a price I couldn’t afford to pass up – $129.00. After looking at it for about 10 seconds before I made up my mind to buy it, I was at the r...

LOVE this saw!

I was in the middle of cutting stringers out of PT 2×12 when I realized it was time to upgrade to a real saw. The skill saw wasn’t “cutting it”. I called my brother who is in the home building business and he recomended this saw to me…I LOVE IT! What a difference. This saw was a dream to use. VERY powerful. I love the electric brake as well which is rare in these saws or so it seemed. Features: Rear pivot depth of cut adjustment allows your hand to remain...

The spec’s are:Diameter: 3 in. Type: Circular saw Motor:Amps: 2.8 Speed Range RPM: 2800 rpm Product Overview:Main Handle Grip: Ergonomic soft grip Handles:Main Position: 3-position I bought this saw for rough cutting plywood sheets instead of having to lug out my full size saw. Because I seldom do this task, I didn’t want to buy a battery powered saw or one that was twice as expensive. The barrel grip is comfortable to hold but is a little awkward when reac...

An awesome saw

An awesome saw

I don’t like to give 5 stars, but I think this really deserves it. I bought this saw a little over 3 years ago. This is the first “good” tool I bought. It is responsible for starting my spiral into buying higher end tools. Before this tool, I bought mostly B&D and $100 stationary/bench tools. This cordless saw is so handy. I use it all the time. It cuts very straight and the case includes a place to store your extra blades. I’ve used it to cut sheet goods...

Cheap and does what I need it to do

Cheap and does what I need it to do

I picked this up at Home Depot a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I only have a benchtop table saw. That means no cross cutting or ripping sheet goods. There is only 6” in front of the throat, and anything that small gets cross cut on my sliding miter saw. So why on earth would I buy a 40.00$ saw? Well, read below. I will say this has seen some fairly heavy use in the past few weeks. Here are my observations: 1 – The blade. This is a large reason why this saw got 3 stars. Out of t...

Handy tools everyone should have.

Handy tools everyone should have.

I finally had a real need to use the Dremel Saw-Max I recieved for Christmas last year. Had an entertainment center to cut down for a smaller area. I wanted to make the simplest cuts to remove height from the cabinet. A straight edge and my Saw-Max did the trick. I was concerned that the abrasive type blades would not be able to cut cleanly without tearout, and may cause burning. Not to worry. This little guy is the best. I am more than pleased with the performance. I have now used ...

powerful and heavy duty

powerful and heavy duty

This tool is heavy duty in every aspect. It cuts hardwoods like butter. I like the basic nature of the tool, no lasers etc. They often obscure the sight line by getting in the way, and I would rather clearly see myself than rely on a laser. It base plate is aluminum, but is heavy enough it doesnt flex and I’m sure it helps keep the weight down. The adjustments are straight foreward and are easily operated. The motor sounds smooth in it’s wind up and use. The cord is nice and long,...
