Here comes the DeWalt Track Saw - Lookout Festool
253 days ago by GaryK | 22 comments »
After receiving the Dewalt Track Saw I recently won in the Winter 2009 CompetitionI tried it out so that I could write a review for it. The first thing I wanted to point out that separates it from the Festool Version isthat you can set it on it’s side and cut parallel to the surface it’s sitting on.Look at the second picture and you can see the two black stripes. Those are slipperymaterial making it move smoothly. Great for trimming the bottom of a door in place. It has a ni...
Oldie But a Goody

You guys know that these have been around forever and I know that none of you use them but let me tell you what happened tonight. I bought this saw probably 10-12 years ago. Used it for construction, etc. Has been living under my bench for 5-6 years. Anyway, I needed to cut leg blanks for a table. Only piece of white oak was 10’ long. Did not feel like horsing it over to the TS. Laid the oak over the bench, measured 1” over, and grabbed this saw that has not been used for 5-6 year...
Makita, #1 in my book
146 days ago by JMG | 14 comments »
I was a cutman on a framing crew for about 7 years and I have used just about every major brand circular saw out there and the only thing that comes close to a magesium Makita saw is a regular Makita saw. No, I don’t work for Makita but this saw is the absolute best. At only 10 lbs, this bas boy has a powerful 15 amp motor that cuts anything in it’s path. This saw is capable of miter cuts 90 to 56 degrees with the flip of a lever. Remember those times trying to finish a job at...
Skil Worm gear saw
216 days ago by Don K. | 11 comments »
I know many woodworkers do not use a “Worm gear” saw because it is not precise enough for fine detail cutting. But at times I still find I need to use one (other than in my remodel business). A few weeks ago, (before easter) I was asked to build a project for my church (A 20ft tall mountain for a Easter play) and I pulled out my trusty 20+ year old Skil worm drive saw to begin work. Guess what, didn’t work anymore. So I jumped in my truck and head down to my local Lowe’...
Craftsman Mini Circular Saw model #Model # 112.10872

The spec’s are:Diameter: 3 in. Type: Circular saw Motor:Amps: 2.8 Speed Range RPM: 2800 rpm Product Overview:Main Handle Grip: Ergonomic soft grip Handles:Main Position: 3-position I bought this saw for rough cutting plywood sheets instead of having to lug out my full size saw. Because I seldom do this task, I didn’t want to buy a battery powered saw or one that was twice as expensive. The barrel grip is comfortable to hold but is a little awkward when reac...
LOVE this saw!

I was in the middle of cutting stringers out of PT 2×12 when I realized it was time to upgrade to a real saw. The skill saw wasn’t “cutting it”. I called my brother who is in the home building business and he recomended this saw to me…I LOVE IT! What a difference. This saw was a dream to use. VERY powerful. I love the electric brake as well which is rare in these saws or so it seemed. Features: Rear pivot depth of cut adjustment allows your hand to remain...
powerful and heavy duty

This tool is heavy duty in every aspect. It cuts hardwoods like butter. I like the basic nature of the tool, no lasers etc. They often obscure the sight line by getting in the way, and I would rather clearly see myself than rely on a laser. It base plate is aluminum, but is heavy enough it doesnt flex and I’m sure it helps keep the weight down. The adjustments are straight foreward and are easily operated. The motor sounds smooth in it’s wind up and use. The cord is nice and long,...
A good saw

Hello all, One of the great things about renovations is that it is really easy to rationalize a new tool purchase (or two so far). As part of the ongoing ceiling installation Jenn and I decided to buy not only the Dewalt drill, which I’ve already reviewed, but this circular saw. I did not do any research into which tool would be the best as this was more of an impulse purchase just to get the ceiling up… Some specs: 7 1/4 inch blade 5/8 arbor weight (from the manual) 11 lb...
Powerful saw for carpentry work

OK, there have been lots of reviews published about this saw, both in magazine reports and on the internet. However, I have not written any of those reviews. So, here goes my shot at fame. This is a great saw, BUT it is a saw built for use by strong men with strong arms, or at least one strong arm. Why, well, its magnesium case notwithstanding, at 14 pounds it is still very heavy for a circular saw. However, what you get in return is a left-side blade that makes it easier to guide to a scr...
Evolution rage Review

If your like us you might never have heard of the power tool manufacture called Evolution power tools. We tested this bad boy the other day and it is awesome. Lots of power and very easy to control. We cut Rebar, wood with nails, plastic and aluminum. Oh yeah, it was all with one blade. They also offer a diamond blade and we cut through concrete and stone with no problem. The interesting thing about this saw is after we cut the steel, we could work with it right away, it wasn’t ho...
