If you have been building furniture and other woodworking projects as a hobby and think you have a really good grasp of woodworking, think again. I had been designing my own pieces, building from plans and taking on various projects over the years. My humble workshop contains lots of hand and power tools and budgets being what they are, it may never be a dream shop. But projects do get done, with kudos from family and friends. I was the fortunate recipient of some gift cards to the Wood...

I worked the WIA show this past weekend in Pasadena, Ca. showing the Earlex tools in a booth and also running a seminar titled “HVLP Spray finishing made simple” which was well attended by many of my woodworking friends, customers and newbies trying to figure things out. Overall the show was a success, the woodworking TV stars and authors had great attendance in the building next door to the trade show area. It would have been nice if everything could have been in the same buildin...

Attending a class at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking is a big investment. Classes are not cheap, hotels in Port Townsend are pricey in the summer, and unless you live on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, getting there will take some time and maybe a ferry ride. But, I am so glad I made that investment. I really enjoyed the two classes I took there. Port Townsend is a lovely little town with terrific sights, shops, and restaurants. During the time I took my classes it was...

Shopclass on Demand is a webiste that contains a number of woodowrking videos. I signed up in March during a promotion that promised 1/2 price access for life. That is I paid $25 for six months access and would be allowed to renew for the same price for life. Seemed like a good deal at the time. I was initially happy with the deal. They had seeded the site with a number of good videos that they typically sell as DVDs for $25 or so. Since then they have added 2-3 more videos each week....

Last Friday I took a 1 day class at the Homestead Heritage School of Woodworking in Waco Texas. Homestead Heritage is a traditional Crafts Village where members of their community grow up with and learn trades such as pottery, black smithing, furniture making, and traditional ways of making fabric and clothing. This was my first experience visiting and I was pleasantly surprised at how willing they were to share their knowledge and genuine hospitality with guests. On to the woodworking. ...
