Furniture Building & Lutherie Classes

Furniture Building & Lutherie Classes

I stumbled onto Ted’s studio while looking for woodworking classes here in Louisville and have been immensely satisfied with everything I’ve done in the classes. I have taken a class or two at Woodcraft and they were good but there was just something missing for me. After sending an email and visiting the shop I signed up for a relatively intro level class making a shaker style coffee table. The course was in 3 hour sessions and lasted roughly 2 months, meeting once a week. ...

Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking

If you have been building furniture and other woodworking projects as a hobby and think you have a really good grasp of woodworking, think again. I had been designing my own pieces, building from plans and taking on various projects over the years. My humble workshop contains lots of hand and power tools and budgets being what they are, it may never be a dream shop. But projects do get done, with kudos from family and friends. I’ve always enjoyed Richard Maguire’s videos, and his English Hall Table series is a prime example of why. I’ve been building along with this series, and I’ve watched each of the videos multiple times. (I’ll post my table as a project in the next week or so.) Richard’s instruction is detailed, thoughtful and entertaining. He stands out in his willingness to talk about why he does what he does. The video production is also excellent. As always, his focus ...

Renovate Wood & Transitional Planes Video

Renovate Wood & Transitional Planes Video

I picked up the video at the Woodworking Show after Bob completed his seminar. The video is about 80 minutes long and goes through the steps needed to bring wood bodied and transitional planes back to life. Topics include, rust removal, Japanning, flattening, tuning and building a complete replacement body. There are additional PDF files on the disk that have templates for making throat patches, totes, and new wood bodies. This DVD is a good resource for anyone starting out restoring wood...
