Howdy, The kids and I just finished an awesome time at Disney world. Tomorrow morning begins the long return trip. I can’t wait to get home. I have 6 beautiful boards in the van. I just want to start staring at them and dreaming. Today I met a true woodworking master and conservationist. Mr Bob Hughes is keeping old fallen, dead standing and cleared trees out of the landfills. Bob mills the trees on his property and sells them at very low prices. Bob is working on a beautiful ...

Buying wood online

Buying wood online

06-23-2014 01:13 PM by LukeFreeze | 8 comments »

I usually do small projects out of specialty woods and sometimes have a difficult time finding stock. For the longest time, I have been getting wood from Rockler because of the smaller sizes and available widths and thicknesses. However, I often times received a crooked or warped piece. The final straw was ordering supplies to make a project out of 3/8” Walnut. I was almost done when I made a wrong cut and needed to order another piece. However, at the time, Rockler was out of 3/8”...

Baileign Jointer/Planer Review

Baileign Jointer/Planer Review

I have had my Baileigh Industrial JP-1250 for about 8 months now and I think I have used it enough to give a credible review. Baileigh has been around in the metal machine business for years but just started getting into woodworking machines. I did a lot of research before I pulled the trigger on this machine and decided, at the price it was selling for, I couldn’t pass it up. The machine arrived in great shape with excellent packaging. It comes with 4 heavy casters but they don̵...

Woodpeckers multi knobs- fantastic!

Woodpeckers multi knobs- fantastic!

I’ve used both these styles in various jigs, both the mini and regular multi knobs and cannot say enough good about them. I used to spend hours shopping around to find the right diameter knob with the right size thread and right length and the right type. These are very flexible in that you can use them as a through or studded knob. The minis come only in 1/4”, but the larger knobs come in 1/4”, 3/8” or 5/16” standard hex head bolts or nuts. The minis especially hav...

A quick look at a product that was sent to me after I had built my “Between the Stud Cabinets”. I had cleats before to house the shelves but now I have more flexibility for any new changes! http://youtu.be/nKPn9OWfUr0

Mobile storage for less

Mobile storage for less

The DeWalt TSTAK is the yellow and black competitor to the Festool/Tanos Systainer and Bosch/Sortimo L-Boxx. There doesn’t seem to be much of a retail presence at the moment (although Woodcraft seems to have begun carrying them, and highlighted them as a 2014 Fathers Day gift idea). So after a lot of online research, I procured a few of these units (the long-handle I, flat top II, and 2 drawer IV) because I found them to be on average, 30-50% less per unit than it’s competitors....

If I could have rated it with less than 1 star I would have. In short, don’t waste your time! Every joint I tested leaked! There was noting I could have done to stop the leaks.

Trend Tool & Bit Cleaner Cuts Through Blade Buildup Effortlessly

Trend Tool & Bit Cleaner Cuts Through Blade Buildup Effortlessly

05-21-2014 12:54 PM by CBeard | 9 comments »

After replacing the blade on my tablesaw, I promptly made the mistake of running some construction grade 2×12’s through it. To say that they gummed up the blade would be an understatement. I took the gummed up blade off and set it to the side for a few weeks until I had time to find a cleaner to remove the sap. Online reviews led me to Trend Tool & Bit Cleaner. Unlike some other cleaners, it is non toxic and biodegradable, which naturally causes one to question how well it ...

Wooden Spinner Swivel

Wooden Spinner Swivel

A few weeks back I made some wooden spinners and posted pictures of the spinners as a project. After posting pictures of the spinners I received several questions about the types of swivels I used. After testing several types of swivels I decided the sealed ball bearing swivels were the best and didn’t gunk up or break down. Below is a Cabela’s like to the Sampo type swivels I ended up using. They spin very easily due to the internal ball bearing. Chris http://www.cabela...

The tool I could not do without

The tool I could not do without

My wife bought me this tool for my birthday probably six years ago. I have used it for demolition and construction to cut copper pipes and wood, to sand where no other sander whould have done the job and for many other things. This tool took me out of a bind countless time. This is a wonderful little detail sander. This morning I used it again to trim pieces of wood where not other tool could have done it. If you do not already have one of this, go buy one. Sometimes they are on sale ...
